The Smile Files: The Tooth Fairy's Whitening Tips

So I know, most of us are addicted to our morning cup of tea or coffee. We rely on it to kick start our day... Imagine having to walk around all day with droopy eyes, yawning, and looking like a freaking zombie to boot. But for some of us, our romance with caffeine is so amazing that we never turn our backs on a nice cup! Imagine those perfect blends of pure happiness and comfort in a cup... How can one say no to it? And before you realize it, you've downed 3 cups already, and the day has just begun... Anyone with me on this one?

For others, its smoking and certain things you eat. Red wine, cranberry juice, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, beetroot and wait... COLA!
"Oh my"!

And lets not forget those tempting popsicles and slushies.. Even those yummy curries..

The outer layer of the teeth is porous and over time, certain food and liquids seep in and cause stains. Hmmm.. so what should one do now. The first answer is Bleaching. Book an appointment with the dentist and come back all pearly smiles.. well that's effective, but at a hefty drain from your pocket.

Psssst... Here are a few DIY, with things at home you can use instead. (Now I shouldn't be telling you this, 'cause I am a dentist myself, and it is bad business sense...but then I couldn't help it. I just had to especially since they WORK!) Now I'm not talking about those heavily stained white-turned-brown-black teeth. I see so many of them everyday! Sad! This is for mild extrinsic stains ok?

  • Baking Soda! Yes you heard me right. Magic ingredient that is. Mix it with lemon juice.
  • Mashed strawberries. Mix 1 berry with a teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Plain old mustard oil and salt mixture.
Use a toothbrush to gently rub the any one of the above pastes all over your teeth, especially the ones in the front (afterall, aesthetics do matter) brush for 2 minutes, rinse, follow up with your normal toothpaste.
And wait...!Its not over yet. If you're looking for an even simpler solution (tut tut, getting lazy, are we?) try the one I swear by.
  • Banana peel! The way it makes your teeth shine! Ooolala! So don't throw the peel away next time you have the fruit. Incidently, did you know that the strawberry isn't really a berry, but banana is? Look at me going off topic.. Anyway, take a piece of the peel and rub its inside surface over your teeth for a while. That's all it takes.

Follow any of these 2 times a week. Do not over do it. You'll see a difference :) say hello to smooth shiny teeth!
P.S. do not try these out if you are allergic to any of the above ingredients! There is always bleaching for those tougher " I won't leave you" stains..
