Saslic DS Foaming Face Wash : Review

Written by: Swati on:

There was a period around 6 years ago when I first came to Bangalore and the hectic college life plus the weather water change combined with all the dust just added added more and more problems to my already oily acne prone skin. My face (the cheek area and forehead precisely) was home to numerous pimples and acne. They just kept showing up.

Well, I had to do something. Some basic home remedies were done - the usual sandalwood etc to soothe the skin, followed by covering my face with a scarf when I used to travel in autos, and then going to a dermatologist...I did everything to battle acne. With time and regular care the problem did get under control...and now my skin is a lot well behaved (*touchwood*).

I try and follow a regular skincare routine and there are a few trusted products that I stick to. Which brings me to todays review, Saslic DS Foaming Face Wash by Cipla, a gem I came across 2 years ago.

A little information : Salicylic acid works as a keratolyticbacteriocide and comedolytic agent by causing the cells of the epidermis to shed more readily, opening clogged pores and neutralizing bacteria within, preventing pores from clogging up again by constricting pore diameter, and allowing room for new cell growth. (shamelessly copied from wikipedia).

I used 2 bottles of the regular Saslic face wash 1% (that comes in the orange bottle, to make my skin get accustomed to it. I had never used any salicylic acid product earlier) before moving on to this one with 2% concentration.

Saslic DS comes in a clear tranparent lavender plastic bottle with a pump, very lightweight. However it is not very travel friendly so make sure to keep the bottle upright while travelling.

The liquid is clear and transparent and comes out as a bubbly foam when your press the pump. It is almost water like when spread over the face, just slighlty slippery and it will not lather at all. It has a mild fragrance, nothing bothersome.

I used to use this everyday once at night previously, but now that my skin is not giving me much trouble I use it 3-4 times a week, spread it all over my face and wait for around 20 seconds (30 is a bit too much for my slightly senstive skin) and wash it off throughly with cold water. It rinses off easily.
One and a half pump is more that enough for the entire face and I must warn you that this is not one of those long lasting facewashes. Used everyday, a bottle will last you just little over a month, making this quite pricey compared to the other regular facewashes which last long.

It gets rid of excess oil, dirt and any traces of grime, leaving the skin fresh and clean. It does keep my skin oil free for around 2-3 hours. And it does not make it too dry. But yes, if you have dry skin it will give you a stretchy feeling. Since it gets rid of clogged pores so well, it ensures better penetration of moisturisers and other skincare products. Plus, you get cleansing and exfoliation together.

There were no immediate effects on me, but with regular use, it helped reduce my acne, breakouts and blackheads so much. I do get an occasional pimple every now and then, so this will not put a stop completely, but it does control them to a huge extent. I do not think it shows much result on blemishes and scars though.

I am in love with Saslic DS. It suits my oily skin perfectly and helps a lot with acne control. If you are willing to overlook the major con of it getting over quickly, this product works very well. I have gone through a lot Saslic bottles by now, this is my HG :)
*I do suggest that you consult a physician/dermatologist before using this.
