Bright Makeup: A Laundry Nightmare?

Like it or not, neutrals are a thing of the past! Beiges, creams, and browns have been replaced: vibrant green eyeliners, shimmering pink shadows, and bright red and purple lipsticks have arrived. We’re starting to see more and more bold makeup statements out and about – especially during the winter, when we’re looking for a much needed pick-me-up. But while these products are great for making us look, and feel, amazing, are they making laundry day more difficult?

One thing we’ve all experienced is a smudge of makeup on our clothes. It’s so easy to do, and the beauty of neutral colours is that they tend to blend in quite well. Whatever colour top you’re wearing, you can usually give it a little scrub or wipe and the colour largely disappears. When it comes to vivid makeup, it’s a different story. Bright colours don’t blend in as well, and are very noticeable on clothing, especially on light-coloured tops and dresses. If we’re going to wear bold makeup, we need to know the best ways to quickly and easily banish those stains. Here are some handy tips and tricks to keep your clothes looking clean and fresh:

The Dreamcatcher Mani!

Quite some time back I had seen the Dreamcatcher Manicure on The Beauty Department and it looked so pretty but I never did get around to doing it. This sunday, I was enjoying a movie night, snuggled up in my blanket (it is still so cold!) watching That Thing You Do all over again (If you haven't seen it... YOU MUST! SO SO MUST!). "All my only dreams" (The Wonders) is one of the beautiful songs it has. That explains the title :P
If you are wondering why I am blabbering about the movie...well the song made me remember the manicure and I finally did it before bed. (Yes, yes! Funny how we connect things sometimes..!)

Here's what I used:

Lakme Enrich Satin Lipstick #352 : Review

It was around last year Christmas, I was seeing red everywhere. You know when you see/hear a lot of something it kind of grows on you? That's what happened to me and I thought "why not get out of my comfort zone of neutral lip colours and glosses and try out a red lipstick...just for some fun". Now I can change my mind really fast so before that happened, I rushed to the nearest local cosmetic store and asked for all the red lipsticks they had. After about 5 mintues of trial (I am fast that way...and there weren't too many options), I was the proud owner of Lakme Enrich Satin #352. My first red lipstick! Yaay!

L’Oreal Paris Kajal Magique : Review

There were quite a few new Kajal launches in the past few weeks! And why not? Indian women have loved their kajals/kohls since ages. Okay...there are some who aren't very fond of them...but most of us cannot do without one! I am sure we have all tried the Maybelline Colossal and the Lakme Eyeconic ones (atleast one of them, if not both). Here's the new launch from L’Oreal, the Kajal Magique, giving us another one to choose from and debate on...because there isn't anything like having too many options :)

Maybelline Colorama Sexy : Review

I know, the Color Show nail polishes are such a craze right now. We love them too! But let us not forget the good old Colorama range too. It has some very tempting shades as well and today I am sharing one such amazing shade. Maybelline Colorama in Sexy is such a favourite. We have to have a bottle all year round. And there is always a backup lying around too!

Hooked Onto # 7 :)

It's been such a long time we put up a "Hooked Onto" post, but here it is again finally. Here's what I have been hooked to lately:

1) Hand Sanitizers
These little bottles by Zuci are so cute! And very handy to go into handbags/purses. I picked up Citrus Lime (which smells so refreshing and zesty), the Strawberry one (yes it says junior on it but come on it looked really cute!) and I gave Smriti a Basil one since she is crazy about herbs :)

The Body Shop White Musk EDT : Review

Remember sometime back I had shared one of my favourtie perfumes : The Body Shop's Cherry Blossom EDT? And how I was so confused between 2 fragrances? (Here's a summary... I was so so confused. I was in the store for over an hour. There must have been 6- 7 frangrances easily on various areas of both my arms and I am sure I was behaving like a dog with all the frantic sniffing and pacing around:P)

In the end you've gotta do what you have to do and I had to finally pick up both that I liked (I got greedy yes) :D ;) Well, the fragrance responsible for that over an hour confusion was none other than the White Musk EDT. While Cherry Blossom is the one I reach out to during spring and summer, I cannot go through these winter months without the White Musk!

Colour of the Year 2014 by Pantone : Radiant Orchid!!

And yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!

Purple and Green happen to be right at the top of my fave list. I was beyond delighted when last year Pantone chose Emerald- it's such a rich hue and puts me in mind of fabulously glinting jewels and royalty! Imagine my excitement when this time Pantone reached across the colour wheel and picked a gorgeous captivating purple!! Aaaa :) I love the Pantone team!

This is what Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute has to say about Radiant Orchid:

Maybelline Eye Studio Vivid and Smooth Liner Olive : Review

Maybelline Eye Studio Vivid and Smooth Liner Olive Review, Maybelline Eye Studio Vivid and Smooth Liner Olive swatch, Maybelline Eye Studio Vivid and Smooth Liner Olive EOTD

From time to time, I get bored with using just plain black kohl on my eyes. Especially during the winters because everything is dull and I just need a pop of colour to lift my mood up! Now, I'll have you know that I am absoulutely rubbish at using liquid eyeliners; I can never control the brush and the liquid has a great tendency to go into my eyes aaaaargh!

So that's why I love coloured eye-pencils. They are a real boon for klutzes like me :) Just swipe them on and bam, you've got yourself real fancy eyes! Bingoooo! Let's rock all those parties ladies!

And It's 2014!!

We wish you all sing and dance and scream and have the time of your lives this year! Lets fill it with magic and dreams and some good madness, yes? Here's to a 2014 packed with adventures, good health, success for all you wonderful people and your families and lots of happiness!

Lots of love,
Swati & Smriti :)
