A while back, L'Oreal had sent a box of their newly launched skincare for us to try out. I have been using the Skin Perfect 20+ Cream for a month now and I can finally share my views about this one. Read on to know more :)
One of the best parts about the L'Oreal Skin Perfect range is that they have 3 seperate creams targetted for women at different age groups according to the specific needs of that age. This is a very cool concept and I was extremly thrilled to try it out.
Coming to the 20+ cream, it comes housed in a cardborad box with all the necessary details mentioned. The product is contained in a glass jar with a lid and screw on cap. Though the pot looks nice, it is heavy and I don't think it will be too travel friendly (I haven't travelled with it yet..so not quite sure yet).
The product has a strong, somewhat fruity fragrance, which I do not find too overwhelming (but you might want to give this is sniff first if you have a sensitive nose, or if you prefer non scented products) but the frangrance subsides after a little while.
The cream is white with a slight pinkish hue. When I first looked at it, I thought it would be too heavy for my skin, but suprisingly the texture of this one is neither too runny nor too thick. It is infact quite smooth and light, glides on well making it great for slathering and spreading over the skin. A little goes a long way.
When you start to blend in the cream, you might get a bit alarmed since it looks like one of those "fairness" creams that leave that horrible white mask on your face...but do not panic so soon. This one blends in and the faint white effect goes away after a while.
This also has UV filters so that is always a bonus!
Coming to the actual moisturization and effects...well, I must say that this cream is totally meant for oily skins. Once you blend the product, it gives you a complete matte effect and leaves the skin shine-free. So, for normal to dry skinned women, this is a complete no-no. It does not offer any hydaration especially during this cold season now.
I tried the 30+ cream one day, just out of curiosity and that one was quite moisturising compared to this.
I do not believe in "whitening" claims that any brand offers and this cream does not have any whitening effects. It gives a temporary brightening effect soon after application that lasts a while. It gives an even tone and does a good job of mattifying. But all these effects are temporary.
I did not face any breakouts with this, but the cream does contain dimethicone, so if you are allergic to silicone, then stay away for this one.
I have combination skin, and in the dry/cold weather in Bangalore, this absolutely failed to provide my skin with any hydration. Everytime I applied this, my skin felt stretchy and in need of some good moisture. It even exaggerated my dry patches (a problem I have been facing recently..sigh) a little. That being said, this might work really well in the coming summer months, when I would need to keep oil at bay. I have stopped using this one now and will be giving it another shot in the summer...will update you guys!

- no long term/major effects on skin quality; effects were just temporary
- gives a slight white cast (it goes away after a while...but still)
The Skin Perfect range is one of the most affordable skincare range brought out by L'Oreal. The 20+ variant has salicylic acid which will be helpful for acne prone skin and this cream aptly is only suited for oily skinned girls. If you have normal or dry skin, I would suggest staying away from this one. It did not improve my skin so far, and most of the effects were temporary.
As I mentioned earlier, maybe this one isn't working out well due to the dry weather we are having currently. So, I will give it a rest for now and will pick it up to try in the summer sometime...hopefully it might work better then (will update you!).
Do I recommend this?
Only if you are oily skinned, looking for an affordable day cream to mattify and keep oil at bay for a few hours. You can give the smaller tube a try (priced at Rs. 99/-) just to be sure first.
