Hello everyone! Apologies for being a little absent here. There was a lot of stuff going on all around. But, I am back now and hopefully will be a bit more regular.
Anyway, before I ramble on unnecessarily now, I was out yesterday and finally saw the Maybelline Lip Gradation at the counters! Obviously I had to pick one to let you girls know about it :) Here we go then :)
Maybelline has been on a roll off late. One launch after another....there isn't enough time to test them all out actually :D Not that I am complaining, bring on the new stuff yes! The Lip Gradient is called "Colorblur" outside India, and I do like the latter more.
So yes, this one. Umm.. is a lipstick? lip crayon? lip liner? Okay, let's go with a "slimmer lip crayon" then? (like a chubby stick that has been working out :P)
It comes sealed in a plastic wrap with all the details (instruction and ingredients) on it. The colored stick is double sided - the retractable lipstick bullet on one end and a chubby sponge/smudger tip on the other (I don't want to use this yet....it's soooo clean!)
The sponge tip end has to be twisted to get the product out. I like the retractable bullet - no sharpening and less product wastage. The caps shut tightly with a satisfying click. Quite easy to carry around :)
The texture of these pencils is beyond the usual creamy. These are so soft and go on very smoothly. You will realize it as soon as you swatch them at the counter!
Pigmentation is great and it settles down to a powder matte finish. It did dry out my lips a bit (this could be due to the dry weather here as of now. I will update you on this in sometime). Since the formula is so creamy, the bullet can break easily, so be a bit careful. These will work on pigmented lips well too.
The color does transfer, but not crazily. It does not bleed and stays on for about 4 hours.
I believe it comes in 8 shades. You can find dupes for most of them quite easily.
I picked Mauve 1 which is a nude brown with a slight mauve undertone. It will suit most Indian skin tones well (might look a bit muddy on some..definitely try it at the counter once) and is generally a no brainer color, you can pair up with anything and can be worn anytime.
Price : 500 INR
The whole concept of the Lip Gradation pencils is quite nice. There isn't any product in the Indian market that caters to the ombre lip trend. I like that Maybelline has made the packaging different from the usual chubby stick ones. However, the shades aren't very unique and the quantity you get for the price is quite less. Since it is so creamy, it will get over soon for sure.
If you want to try out the ombre lip then you might want to check these out. If however, you just want the normal color, then you'd be better off buying their Colorshow Matte lipsticks which are way cheaper.
