Innisfree, The Green Tea Seed Serum : Review

Written by: Swati on:

My skincare routine has been failry simple since a long time now. I have been cleansing and toning twice a day and I follow up with Lacto Calamine in the morning as my moisturizer and a facial oil at night.
Since the past couple of months though, I have been wanting to incorporate a serum too. Blame the dry Bangalore weather or the aging process, but lots of days, my skin feels dehyrated or dull in the morning and I know it needs an extra surge of moisture.
I was more inclined to get the Face Shop Chia Seed serum initially, but then that went out of stock the day I decided to get a serum...and since I had already made up my mind that I needed one that very day, I went ahead and ordered the Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum (which had a lot of good reviews too).

The Green Tea Seed Serum : “3 Seconds Moisturizing” A Serum that keeps the skin moisturized with the concentrated moisturizing energy of the green tea seed. A moisturizing and nourishing serum with organic green tea seeds from Jeju Island to keep the skin clear and moisturized from deep inside.”

The 80 ml green plastic bottle comes with a pump dispenser and a cap (though you will probably lose the small cap in a few weeks itself). I wish the pump had a locking mechanism (I don't think it would fare very well during travelling).

The serum is a milky translucent color with very runny water like consistency. It spreads very well and I find one pump enough for my face and neck. The fragrance is super fresh and uplifting. Being very thin, it absorbs within a minute on me (I have oily combination skin), though it will get absorbed a lot quicker if you have dry skin, with no stickiness or residue remaining.

The skin feels hydrated after appliction. It takes care of dry patches and flakiness. But from apart from the hydration it provides, I have not seen other mind blowing results.
For reference - I  have combination skin.

For a normal day, and if you have oily skin, the serum alone might be enough to give your skin the needed hydration. If you have dry - combination skin, or on cold winter days, you might need an extra layer of moisturizer.

I have acne prone skin and I have been using the serum atleast 4-5 times a week since the past few weeks, once a day in the morning and it has not broken me out till now. However, it does contain alcohol

2 month update : I think this was causing me to break out a little bit. Small tiny spots. I suspect it was due to this product. I have stopped using it now.

Price : 1950 INR for 80 ml (You can buy it here)

It is priced a bit too steeply definitely, especially for a serum that doesn't do much.
It absolutely fulfills its function don't get me wrong, but it doesn’t wow me enough. You cannot expect this one to work on improving other skin concers. And I feel that there are better hydrating products out there.

You could give it a try if you are looking for a non greasy product to hydrate your skin. But if you are looking to target other skin concers too with your serum routine, you might want to look at other options.

  • For now, I like using it on days when my skin looks parched.  But I will definitely not be repurchasing this one.
