Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ : Review

Written by: Swati on:

Let me start this post with a small confession: Wearing sunscreen was not a part of my everyday routine until a year back. Yes, you heard me right.. I used to run miles away from the very mention of them. Of course, I knew the importance of wearing one and you can still find evidence of years of sun damage on my skin, but in my defence (actually to make you not think of me as a complete weirdo) my reasons for not using sun protection were simple -
Firstly, our country (at least my city) is very hot and humid... Secondly, I have oily skin (fellow oily skinned girls will understand) and...Lastly, all the sunscreens I tried were either too greasy or left a horrific white cast or gave such an uncomfortable feeling. What is one supposed to do?!

After 22 years of my life, someone up above saw my woes and I discovered the Lotus Matte sunscreen which became one of my most loved products. But, we always need more. Sunscreen and a sunblock don't we? Yes, there is a difference!!
So, when the Neutrogena hamper came in the mail a few weeks back, I was so eager to try it out. After all, so many people swear by it! I am using it for over 3 weeks now and finally, I am ready to share my views on the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry- Touch Sunscreen SPF50+.

It comes in a light but sturdy soft squeezy tube packaging, with a nozzle and screw-on cap. It is very travel friendly and I quite liked the look of the tube.
It works on the Helioplex technology and you can read more about that here.

The sunblock has a thicker cream-like texture, but it spreads easily and a small amount covers the face and neck well. The fragrance is quite mild and cannot be detected after a while so that's good for sensitive noses.
Honestly, when I first used this on my face I did not like it much. It did not feel as light as I wanted it to be. I could even say that it felt a tiny bit greasy...BUT, I kept it on and after around 20 minutes it started to feel a lot better and finally, now, I can safely say that this is easily the best waterproof sunblock I have tried!

It takes a little while to settle in but once that is done it does not feel heavy at all. If you have tried waterproof sunblocks you would know that most of them feel like a greasy mask on your face (how I hate that feeling! Ugh!). The Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch is so lightweight compared to them and it does not give you a white/grey cast at all! On the not so humid days it stays matte, true to its claims. On the super hot days, it does get a bit shiny on my oily-combination skin. Not greasy or uncomfortable.. just some shine on my T zone. But since it is a waterproof & sweatproof formula I did expect this. If you have super oily skin all over, I would advise you to test it out before buying it.

It is non-comedogenic has not broken me out till now and one of the best things about it is that I tan a lot less since I have started using it. If you are going on a beach holiday or swimming a lot this summer, you should totally give it a try!

Would I repurchase it?
Yes. While my HG sunscreen will still be the Lotus Matte one, I do like the higher protection this one offers and it protects me from tanning and sunburns a lot more. Which is why I am so torn between them :D
I think that this could be my go-to sunblock when I want a waterproof and sweatproof one and when I am out in the sun for a prolonged time. Try it once, you might like it too!
