Klairs Fundamental Watery Oil Drop

If you have been following us for a while, you probably know by now how much we both love well-hydrated skin (my appreciation for it has grown over the years because of Smriti). You might also be aware that since 2019 end I have been into Korean skincare, the love for which is growing steadily with time. The Klairs Midnight Calming Cream has reached Holy Grail status for me & I wanted to explore more from the brand.

The Fundamental Watery Oil Drop caught my fancy quickly & I absolutely fell in love with the texture when I tried it for the first few times. It had an honorary mention in my 2020 Skincare Favourites HERE. Now that I have been using it for a few months, let me share my thoughts & experience with you.

Update : I have detailed reviews on all the other products in the Klairs Fundamental Line here - Nourishing Eye Butter,  Eye Awakening Gel, Amuple Mist & Water Gel Cream.

Watery oil drop? What exactly is a watery oil drop is the first question that comes to mind, isn't it? Don't let the name confuse you. Even though the name reads oil, the product has no oil whatsoever. This is basically a water based serum that has the benefits of a facial oil without the drawbacks aka greasiness of an oil. The product is meant to be nourishing & moisturizing. The entire Fundamental line is fragrance-free, essential oil-free & alcohol-free.

What the brand says?

Transform dull skin with the Dear, Klairs Fundamental Watery Oil Drop, a water-based serum with the hydrating powers of a facial oil. Designed to deliver a youthful glow, its non-sticky texture is readily absorbed by skin for those who want the benefits of an oil product without the heavy texture. Enriched with Green Tea, Ferment Extracts, Ceramide, and Peptides, it not only provides antioxidant care to act as an anti-aging solution, but also encourages skin regeneration improves skin regeneration for a more youthful appearance.

The bottle is clean & minimalistic but aesthetically pleasing - glass container with the longest pipette/dropper I have used.

The ingredient list is fantastic! - lots of humectants, moisturisers, antioxidants, soothing ingredients including ceramide & a couple of peptides
* Copper tripeptide 1 (wound healing & anti ageing benefits - stimulates collagen  & elastin production & can improve skin elasticity, firmness, clarity & reduce fine lines & wrinkles ; also an antioxidant)
* Acteyl Hexapeptide 8 (shows effects in a matter of few weeks - can firm & smooth the skin- often called the "botox peptide" - the effect is good but temporary & last as long as you use it - it's not necessarily a bad thing, just something to keep in mind).

* Do note that it has fermented ingredients - Rice & Bifida ferment extract (fermentation helps boost the properties of the ingredient & enhances penetration).
If you haven't used any product with fermented components then please do a patch test first, to rule out allergies.

The texture is interesting. It is runny -  thicker than a toner but thinner than a serum... almost like an essence. It feels silky on the skin & absorbs very well. We have all the good characteristics of an oil, the deep hydrating & moisturising effect, but it doesn't feel heavy, greasy, oily or sticky.

3 drops is enough for my face - I pat it in with my fingers on clean skin - and it makes my skin so plump with hydration & moisture, and also makes it look smooth. It also gives a slight glow/dewy skin look (not shiny, unless you use more than necessary). I have used it for prepping my skin a few times before makeup & it works well that way too.

This serum can be used by all skin types. In my opinion it will suit combination, normal-dry skin, dehydrated skin, even oily-dehydrated skin well. Very oily skins might not like it a lot & severely dry skin will need to layer this with something heavier.

Being a premium line from Klairs, products in the fundamental range are on the expensive side compared to their regular ones, so before you decide to get it please keep in mind that this is not a product that will give you fast transformation, it is not an aggressive serum. The fundamental line places importance on skin health, barrier support & gentle care. It's a well rounded approach to healthy fundamental skincare.

I love how the Watery Oil Drop makes my skin feel & look - well hydrated, bouncy &  plump ... Hello chok chok skin! I love the ingredients, the bottle will last a long time because one only needs 3-4 drops I enjoy the overall experience of using this product.
