My 2020 Skincare Favourites

Written by: Swati on:

I originally wanted to share quick thoughts about each product on this Instagram post itself, but I was limited by caption space. So now I am here instead penning down my thoughts about my skincare favourites of 2020.

These are the products I have been using for the majority of the past year and they all are well & truly loved. Most of them have already been repurchased (fear of running out) and those which have not been will most certainly be repurchased soon.

You will notice as you read further that my main focus for skincare has been hydration, soothing & calming (terms I will use to describe every second product on my list!). Anyway, let's get into this.

Skincare Favourites, Skincare Favourites, My Skincare Favourites 2020

1) Kama Ayurveda Rose Jasmine Face Cleanser

A long-standing favourite of mine which has been going strong for me for years now. I really like this cleanser. It is gentle, non-stripping and does the job well. It Will suit all skin types. I have spoken about this multiple times on the blog.  Available here

2) Avene Thermal Spring Water (available here)

Again not a 2020 discovery for me. I have used this on and off over the years and I have always liked it. This is one is not something everyone needs to use. It is expensive and if your skin (whichever be the type) doesn't have issues then you don't need to use it.
However, if your skin is sensitive, irritated, sunburnt, inflamed then you can consider giving this a try. It won't fix the issues like magic, but it does help calm and sooth the above said concerns. And the mist the nozzle dispenses is super fine which I really like! Full review HERE

3) I'm From Mugwort Essence

Single ingredient. Yes! Lightly fermented. Yes! A 2020 discovery for me and I am so glad I tried it. I really like this essence. It is lightly hydrating and helps to calm down redness & inflammation. It will be especially good for skin which is prone to inflammation & breakouts. Reviewed HERE.

4) Cosrx Snail Mucin Power Essence (available here)

Another 2020 discovery for me! Hydrating, soothing, repairing. It feels slimy, but gets absorbed quickly and doesn't leave any tacky feeling behind. Will work for all skin types. Reviewed HERE.

5) Kiehls Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution

Not a new find, I've been using this one for years too. I like that is it extremely light & fast absorbing. It helps in reducing superficial/surface scar post a breakout for me & also serves as my vit c serum. Although, I must admit that I didn't use it everyday during the 2nd half of the year.

6) Paulas Choice 2% BHA Exfoliant

I don't say things like this lightly or often, but - If you have concerns that require you to use a BHA then this one of the best ones out there (currently). The formulation is great & it is effective. I have tried a few others as well, but nothing comes close this.

7) Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to have discovered this one. Smriti made me try it towards the end of 2019 and there is no looking back. I have gone through mutilple tubs and a tube of it and I keep repurchasing it. I find it to be cooling & calming. Helps to reduce irritation & redness while being hydrating enough for my combination skin.
I find many people wanting to try it but again if you don't have skin concerns like the ones mentioned above, then there's really no need for you to use it. So please read product descriptions & what they are meant to target before making a decision.

8) Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen

Not pictured above because of the recent spf rating controversy. But I have truly enjoyed using this sunscreen. I had never used any other sunscreen which was so cosmetically elegant you know. Whether you want to continue using it or not is completely your choice. I think I will not give up on it just yet. Full review HERE

9) I'm From Mugwort Mask

It's soothing, cooling & helps calm breakouts, redness & inflammation. Tiny bit difficult to take off which is why I like using this pre-shower.
So well, I am quite impressed & a bit in love with the I'm From mugwort line...can you tell?
I have had their Mugwort Cream on my list for months now & will be trying that one out soon too.

10) Shesha Ayurveda Kasturi Manjal (musk turmeric/white)

Cooling & brightening. It gives a temporary glow post use & acts as a physical exfoliator for me when I take it off thus leaving the skin quite smooth to touch. The cooling sensation feels especially good during the hot summer months.

Honorary Mentions :

I tried to keep the favourites limited to single products for each category but these are the products which I used and loved too. I think they deserve a mention as well :

It's gentle & cleanses well. It is a tad more strong than the Kama Ayurveda cleanser but is a close 2nd. Reviewed HERE

  • Avene Skin Recovery Cream
I use it (on my dermatologists prescription) for my perioral dermatitis. It is a basic non irritating cream which calms down the occasional flare ups I have and soothes the area. It also helps in repairing a damaged skin barrier.

  • Glamglow Supermud Treatment
My favourite deep pore cleaning charcoal mask. (full review HERE)

For a long time their Narangi Ubtan was my absolute favourite, but I preferred the Soundarya one more this year. Possibly because my skin has changed from being oily to more combination now.

  • It's Skin VC Eye Cream
Helps to keep the eye area hydrated and supple. The quantity is a lot and the tube lasts ages! Ages!!

3 products that I started using only in December and thus did not get included in the main list (you know me... I like to use a product for months and then share my thoughts about it) but since I did start using them in 2020, I feel that they need to be given a honorary mention.
  • Klairs Fundamental Water Gel Cream

  1. I hope that this selection will help at least one of me. I am taking away everything from this blog, just know that it’s never too late to look after my skin. I know skin doesn't change overnight, so I will try to give proper skincare a chance to work and allow my face to adapt. Thank you so much Swati & Smriti for this wonderful post.
