There was a time during my university days when my preferred method of removing makeup - I mainly wore eye & lip products only - was a bi-phase makeup remover. They were quick, convenient & suited my needs. Over the years I have used a good number of them but with time I started to wear some base makeup & so I gravitated more towards cleansing oils - I didn't have the patience to use separate removers for the eye and face.

The Pixi Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover wasn't in the market back then, because if it had been, I would have loved getting my hands on it. A bi-phase remover that can be used on the Eyes, Lips and wait for it... the Face too! Yes, you read it right. Anyway, I am glad I tried it now because I quite like this one. Read on.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover, Pixi, Pixi India

What the brand says?
The gentle bi-phase formula effectively removes eye, face and lip makeup.
• Hydrates skin as it effectively removes long-wear and waterproof makeup.
• Infused with Coconut Extracts and Probiotics to provide added moisture and a balancing effect to your skin.
• Willow Bark extract gently tones skin as you remove your makeup.
• Cinnamon Extract provides anti-inflammatory benefits.
• Suitable for all skin types
• Paraben-free
• Not tested on animals

• Coconut nourishes & conditions
• Probiotics protect & balance
• Oat Extract soothes & hydrates

How To Apply
• Use when needed.
• Step 1: Be sure to shake this makeup remover to mix it well before use.
• Step 2: Soak a cotton pad and gently remove even the most stubborn eye, lip and face makeup.
• This Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover is suitable for all skin types including very dry or sensitive skin.

Ingredients : Aqua/Water/Eau, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, 1,2-Hexanediol, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Avena Strigosa Seed Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Origanum Vulgare Leaf Extract, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract, Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract,Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Glycerin, Allantoin, Lecithin, Butylene Glycol.

That's a good ingredient list! Few of the notable ingredients that stand out for me are :
Bifida Ferment Lysate - probiotic ; Coconut Extract - soothing, hydrating, emollient ; Purslane Extract - anti inflammatory, anti oxidant, wound healing ; Lactobacillus extract - skin condtioning ; Skullcap Root Extract - antioxidant & anti inflammatory ; Willow Bark Extract - anti inflammatory & astringent (contains natural salicylic acid) ; Glycerin - moisturizer/humectant ; Allantoin - soothing

The chunky but quite cute looking bottle has a push dispense cap. I had never used this mechanism before and hence had never realised how convenient it is - you simply put a cotton pad on top, press down a few times and it gets saturated with the product. Soooo easy!

The formula is fragrance-free, alcohol-free & essential oil-free which is a big plus. I find the remover gentle yet effective and it does not sting or irritate my eyes. It leaves an oily residue behind and you need to go in with a regular cleanser afterwards - which is alright as a double cleanse is essential if you are wearing makeup anyway. Let me also add that the formula isn't harsh or drying on the skin.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover, Pixi, Pixi India

You simply shake the bottle to mix the 2 phases (oil & water) - it turns into a milky white liquid, put a cotton pad soaked in the remover on the area, let it sit for a bit, wiggle the cotton a bit so that it gets between the lashes properly and wipe away gently. I usually wear light makeup and this managed to take off everything easily - light to medium coverage concealer & foundation, eyeshadow (including glitter), mascara, lipstick (regular & those long staying liquid formulas).

If you would like to see it in action, I have a video here that will give you a better idea.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover, Pixi, Pixi India

Price : 2550 INR (24$) for 150ml ( Available HERE )

The Pixi Hydrating Milky Makeup Remover is a good one if :
  • you like using bi-phase removers
  • and if you want one that can be used on the face too
  • if you wear light-medium makeup
  • if you are travelling and you do not want to carry multiple/separate cleansers (one for your base, one for your eyes).
What I liked the best? The fact that this can be used on the face too. I haven't come across many (actually when I think about it, I haven't come across of any) bi-phase makeup removers that can be used to remove base makeup.

I had actually stopped using makeup removers because I had moved onto oils & I also do not want to use cotton rounds/pads anymore (not the most sustainable & I am finishing up my last batch which I bought over a year ago) but I really like this makeup remover & want to keep using it - I just need to get hold of some reusable cotton rounds now. If you have any recommendations for those, let me know :)

I have a bunch of other Pixi products reviewed on the blog too if you want to take a look

Hey hey! Smriti here!

I'm back with another one of my favourites - the YBP Plant Remedy Skin Salve, and I'm so thankful I decided to buy it after going back and forth many times :)

This product made its way into my stash at a time when I was battling a particularly difficult bout of angry bumps and flakiness on my skin (overdid the exfoliation, ugh) and it was crying out for help...AND I ran out of the Plant Remedy Skin Elixir oil! - Reviewed HERE.

YBP Plant Remedy Skin Salve, YBP Plant Remedy Skin Salve review, YBP, YBP Skin Salve review

Most of you will know that YBP makes all its skincare in small batches with fresh, slow farmed ingredients, so when I saw that the oil was out of stock, I decided to get my hands on the Skin Salve as a replacement.

I do want to say up front though, that the skin salve is by no means a replacement for the skin elixir. Both products are very different in their formulation, and also in how they're meant to be used but have a common purpose of nourishing your skin.

Hi you guys! I hope you are doing well. I am talking about the Pixi FortifEYE Firming Eye Patches today - which, let me just tell you right up front, I got as an indulgent treat. These Pixi eye patches were on my wishlist for a very long time before I finally gave in one evening & bought them. These are extra & by no means a must buy.

Okay with that being said, I do enjoy using these patches. Now that you know this, read on if you are interested in them :)

With the temperature rising each day, I thought it was the best time to compile a Summer Skincare Routine for you all. While the basic steps of skincare (cleansing, moisturizing, sunscreen) remain the same  throughout the year, summer skincare especially in a hot humid country like India can do with a few tweaks.

Here we go!

Most of us know that it is important to cleanse the skin everyday. Given the summer heat, my combination skin is a getting a bit more oily and it was a good time to test out the The Face Shop Herb Day Foaming Cleanser. I've had oily skin till my mid 20s & I can completely understand the struggles associated with it - not wanting to use a moisturizer or any thing on the face for that matter, feeling so oily that it makes you want to wash your face several times a day. I was there, I felt this too. And for the longest time I did not use anything on my face, even if I tried to, I wanted to wash it off in 5 minutes.

But this was back in the early 2000s when there was a lack of skincare products in the Indian market and we only had a few things to choose from. With time the Indian beauty market got more products and I slowly started to discover things I could use. In the present time, we have so many options, there is something for everyone. Which is so good!

So here's a simple skincare routine for oily skin which has worked well for me in the past.

I had shared a short video of this on our Instagram page a while back, check it out if you can.

If you are a regular reader of the blog and if you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I have perioral dermatitis which is unfortunate because as a beauty enthusiast it narrows down the lip products (lipsticks/gloss/balms) I am able to use drastically. A lot of formulas out in the market tend to aggravate and flare up my condition in 1 application. This makes me very picky when it comes to lip products and also very apprehensive whenever I am trying out something new. It also means that whenever I find a product that doesn't worsen the condition for me I dance with joy! Let's talk about the Enn Pucker Hydrating Lip Mask today.

Oh, I have swatched this mask on video on our Instagram, so check that out to get a good idea. Also follow us there for more beauty & lifestyle talk :)

They also offer 2 main advantages :

Being a beauty enthusiast, I try a fair shade of products. However, I am very particular about what I buy & impulse buys for me have become very rare over the years. But even though I do a lot of research before getting anything, every now and then an odd product doesn't work well for me or doesn't perform to my expectation. That's just how products work - all of us are slightly different and we might have different needs and skin requirements. So here is another list of products that did not work for me.

You can read Part I of the post HERE. Let me know if you like these posts, because I sure like sharing them. Maybe we can make it a bi-yearly thing?

Disclaimer - While these products somehow did not work out for me, they might work/or might have worked for you. This in just my personal view.

With that being said, let me share my list.

If you have been following us for a while, you probably know by now how much we both love well-hydrated skin (my appreciation for it has grown over the years because of Smriti). You might also be aware that since 2019 end I have been into Korean skincare, the love for which is growing steadily with time. The Klairs Midnight Calming Cream has reached Holy Grail status for me & I wanted to explore more from the brand.

The Fundamental Watery Oil Drop caught my fancy quickly & I absolutely fell in love with the texture when I tried it for the first few times. It had an honorary mention in my 2020 Skincare Favourites HERE. Now that I have been using it for a few months, let me share my thoughts & experience with you.

Update : I have detailed reviews on all the other products in the Klairs Fundamental Line here - Nourishing Eye Butter,  Eye Awakening Gel, Amuple Mist & Water Gel Cream.

Is there any such thing as having too many lip balms? Just kidding, there can actually be such a thing, so do not overbuy. But let's be a little bit realistic, most of us have a couple of balms at least open & around the house - one in your handbag, one in the car, one on bed stand perhaps? Or if you are a little bit extra like me, then one in the kitchen and one tucked away in the crevices of the couch.

I picked up the Juicy Chemistry Blood Orange & Rosehip Lip Balm on a whim because I wanted to try out the brand and a lip balm seemed like a low risk product. Also, I really like the Forest Essentials Sweet Narangi Lip Balm and I thought that this could be similar at a much affordable price. Here are my thoughts ...

The first chemical exfoliant I used was salicylic acid 7 years ago and after using it for many years in a wash off form I wanted to step it up and use a leave on BHA since my skin is now accustomed to it.

While on the hunt for a leave on salicylic acid treatment, I came across the Suganda BHA Exfoliating Serum. The brand had rave reviews in the Indian skincare community and I thought of give this serum a go along with their White Lotus Moisturizer - which is reviewed HERE.
I used this BHA for a little over 2 months and here are my thoughts :

I am a huge face masks lover, I always have been. A face mask was the only consistent thing I was doing in terms of skincare during in my school time :D I find using a face mask quite relaxing, whether I put one on & carry on with my work or when I take 10-15 minutes off and just unwind. I think that they are a great way to boost things up while taking sometime out for self-care. I also like using homemade masks as often as I can, but sometimes it is difficult to make one at home & that's why I like to keep some pre-made masks in my skincare stash too. Some masks have become a staple over time, I do like trying out new ones once in a while.
The Kama Ayurveda Nimrah Face Mask - reviewed HERE had been a favourite of mine for many years so when the brand launched the Suvarna Haldi Chandan Brightening Face Mask, I wanted to try it out.

When Herbal Essences relaunched in India a while back it was a hit of nostalgia for me. Who remembers that their shampoos & conditioners used to be available at those slightly fancy supermarkets many years back? I had a fun time trying out some of their older variants back in my undergrad days. Herbal Essence back then was a treat and I used to get it when I was feeling a bit indulgent and wanted to take a break from my usual Sunsilk :D
This was way before this blog was born, so unfortunately I do not have any old posts, but just google them and many of you 90 borns will take a trip down memory lane.

Anyway, in 2019 they made a comeback in the Indian market. Revamped packaging and hopefully better formulations...of course I had to give it a go! I wasted no time in picking up the Argan Oil Shampoo and let's just say that it has become a staple for me for the past 2 years. Multiple bottles down, it was about time I shared my thoughts on it on the blog. I have spoken about it & recommended it numerous times on our Instagram page & these even made it to me 2020 Haircare Favourites (pssst... follow us there if you don't already because a lot more beauty stuff makes it way there first).
Okay, let's jump into the review.
