Juicy Chemistry Blood Orange & Rosehip Lip Balm

Is there any such thing as having too many lip balms? Just kidding, there can actually be such a thing, so do not overbuy. But let's be a little bit realistic, most of us have a couple of balms at least open & around the house - one in your handbag, one in the car, one on bed stand perhaps? Or if you are a little bit extra like me, then one in the kitchen and one tucked away in the crevices of the couch.

I picked up the Juicy Chemistry Blood Orange & Rosehip Lip Balm on a whim because I wanted to try out the brand and a lip balm seemed like a low risk product. Also, I really like the Forest Essentials Sweet Narangi Lip Balm and I thought that this could be similar at a much affordable price. Here are my thoughts ...

Key Benefits

  • Antioxidant: Flavonoids found in plant oils such as Rosehip oil and in essential oils such as Blood Orange oil protect from free radical damage.
  • Phenols: Found in essential oils such as Blood Orange oils. Phenols are antioxidants that protect against sun damage and free radicals and soothe inflammations.
  • Plant vitamins: Vitamin E keeps the scalp hydrated and nourished.
  • Fatty-acids: Rosehip and Castor Seed Oils are rich in saturated and unsaturated fatty acids such as palmitic, omega 3 and stearic acids that nourish the skin.
  • Terpenes: Blood Orange Essential Oil is rich in monoterpenes that soothe the skin and stimulate blood circulation.
  • Vitamin E: It nourishes and moisturises the lips.

The packaging is cute - a sturdy amber glass jar packaging with a metal screw on cap - it looks cute and feels good. It has a strong citrus scent, which sensitive noses might not like so much, but it smells fresh & good to me.

The texture is soft & spreads well on the lips. The balm melts on contact (because it has a lot of emollients/oils) with the heat on your fingers and goes on as a thin oil layer. Owing to this, the balm does not survive light meals or snacking - therefore, I found that I needed to apply it a lot more often compared to my usual balms which are much thicker in consistency and stay on a long time.

Here's the thing though, one or some of the ingredients in the balm gave me a reaction & flared my perioral dermatitis. It's very unfortunate because I really like the Forest Essentials Narangi lip balm Review HERE which I have used many times over the years, and I wasn't expecting a flare up with this. So if you have dermatitis or eczema, proceed with caution or get in touch with the brand first before buying this.

Because of this, I could not use it for a long time and therefore I cannot say if it helps lighten lip pigmentation or not. Reading the ingredient list which is really good, it should help with pigmentation - but I feel it is important to keep exceptions real too. It might help to lighten lips that got pigmented over time due to some factors but I do not think it would change the natural colour of your lips drastically. I do notice that my lips look slightly pinker whenever I use  FE Narangi Lip balm consistently, so I am assuming that this balm would work similarly too.

Overall, to me, this was an average product. I like my lip balms to be thicker & heavier in consistency, as I have perpetually dry lips almost all year round & thicker balms stay on longer and help me more. And this lip balm has quite a thin consistency which I am not a fan of. However, this is a well-loved lip balm in the Indian skincare community and has stellar reviews online. I personally would pick the FE Sweet Narangi lip balm over this because the FE does not give me a reaction. But if you want something similar at a lower price, and if you like thin lip balms with more oils then you could definitely check it out.
