Tek Hair Brush & Comb

I never thought I could get obsessed about a hair brush yet here I am. I've been singing praises to everyone around me about one particular brush for over a month now. It's about time I let you in on this too - I have found THE BEST HAIR BRUSH...ever!
I know, that's a tall claim to make, but it's true, I have never come across a hairbrush quite like this one. It is unique, it is special and while it's on the expensive side, it is so worth it! It's from Tek and I'll tell you exactly why Tek Brushes are brilliant in a bit, but let me tell you this first :
My husband tried both the brush & comb the day I unboxed them and said right away "I'm never using another brush again". Now, he is not a beauty fanatic like I am. So, this coming from him meant a lot! We had a spirited discussion about both the brush and comb for an hour at least the first day, we still admire it & talk about it some days. I was pleasantly surprised & happy to see him get super enthusiastic about a hairbrush. Although this means that I have to share it, for now, until I get him his very own Tek brush.
Tek is an Italian company started in 1977. They make a variety of hairbrushes and combs for different hair types and needs. All their products are 100% handmade in Italy, the wooden ones are 100% FSC certified and are crafted following sustainable principles. Forest stewardship council® is an international organization to certify wood is not coming from wild deforestation. The FSC mark identifies products which contain wood coming from forests managed correctly and responsibly according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. Through this organization, Tek commits to replant any tree they are using, to promote a sustainable circle. It also makes each piece of wood trackable throughout its whole journey.
Before I share my experience, let me quickly tell you the benefits of using wooden brushes & combs:
- Unlike plastic, wood is naturally antistatic. This means less frizz.
- Wood massages the scalp better which reactivates blood circulation. It promotes a healthier scalp & stimulates the hair follicles which can help boost hair growth.
- It absorbs excess sebum and redistributes the oils produced by the scalp better throughout the hair length as your brush.
- It's gentler on the hair, doesn't tug or pull as much, which leads to less hair damage & breakage.
- It's hypoallergenic.
- More sustainable.
I've used a plastic comb for years before I got a wooden one and let me tell you that you are bound to notice a difference once you make the switch. With consistent use, it just makes the hair a lot healthier and you won't be able to go back to plastic.
Okay, coming back to Tek. There are some key features in their natural brushes which make all the difference between a Tek brush and other wooden brushes :
- The body is made of Ash Wood. It's a single piece of wood & there are no joints. You won't find hair getting caught or stuck in crevices, like many other brushes.
- The pins are Hornbeam Wood. This wood is more flexible which makes the pins pass through hair easily.
- The brush has a soft rubber base made of 100% pure natural rubber. It is softer, antistatic and biodegradable.
- You'll notice a missing pin on the brush - this is intentional. It lets air pass through as your use the brush, making it pneumatic!
- Their natural brushes & combs are treated with linseed oil & beeswax or carnauba wax which makes them more durable and waterproof.
Tek makes brushes of different sizes and pin lengths to suit different hair types. I have medium-long length hair. It's fine but dense and I went for a brush with long pins.
Paddle Brush with Long Pins
This brush is ideal for long and thick hair. It came with a cute cloth drawstring bag. I've been using it consistently for a little over a month and it has made a good difference in my hair - it feels healthier, looks smoother & shinier.
- I am amazed by how flexible the pins are. The brush never tugs or pulls, and hair breakage is the lowest I have ever seen in my life. Most days, there's no hair on the brush after I'm done brushing.
- I love the length of the pins, they pass through all my hair & reach the scalp easily. Something I always struggled with other brushes I used, most of them only made their way halfway & reached the scalp only when I pressed in harder.
- The pins are also smooth to perfection and do not scratch or irritate the scalp.
- The convex design of the head and the pneumatic rubber base makes a huge difference as well. It moves & adjusts according to the pressure as I brush along and this feels so gentle on the scalp.
- It's also great that the bristles don't have an expanded ball end, I always find them much harder to clean & I find that my hair gets caught on those ball tips often.

Comb with Handle & Wide Teeth
Tek says that this comb is ideal for all hair types, for application of hair masks or balms. The wood is treated with linseed oil & carnauba wax making it waterproof. It is made of 2 sections of wood with opposite veining to make it stronger.
If my hair feels more knotted or tangled than usual, I prefer to use a comb first followed by the brush. The comb is sturdy & does a good job of detangling and removing knots in my hair. Since it is widely spaced teeth, they go through the hair easily without pulling. I haven't used it to apply & distribute hair masks yet, but I do use it to comb and detangle my hair after a wash. So far using it on wet hair has been fine and the comb is holding up well.

Both the brush and the comb are very well made. If you are ready to invest in a wooden hairbrush, then I highly, highly recommend Tek. I use the word invest since a high-quality wooden brush & comb are a lot more expensive than plastic ones.
Their products are just beautiful both in terms of quality and craftsmanship. It's a little hard to describe how they feel on the scalp and hair, in words, but just know that it's very different and so much better than anything else I have used before. It has the right amount of give and feel... And it's just one of those things you have to use to see the difference & once you do, I am sure you won't ever go back. I am a convert and a loyal customer for life now. And while I have been using it for only a short while, I am sure they will last for years if I take good care of them.
