Its been quite sometime I have read a book now. Hopefully something will catch my attention soon.
Today, let me tell you all briefly about the last book I read.
One Day, by David Nicholls.
" You can live your whole life not realizing that what you're looking for is right in front of you."
I blame that line for making me pick up the book. Can a girl say no to a story with some romance in it? I think not.
Summary: "15th July 1988. Emma and Dexter meet on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways. So where will they be on this one day next year? And every year that follows?"
It describes the story of 2 students who meet on the last day of college and then promise to stay in touch after they go their separate ways and lead very different lives. The book is based on guy-girl friendship, career and love post college years. Each chapter covers the same day (15th of July) every year over two decades. I think it is such a unique and fresh way of telling a story, that as a reader you get engrossed into the experiences of Emma and Dexter, and how their lives evolve. Even though some years their stories are tied together and sometimes they go their separate ways, like all similar stories, the reader knows well before hand that these two are meant to be.
The story does have the sadder parts of denial, missed opportunities, regret and to some extent the unhappiness of the characters, but it did make me read on just to know how the story of "Dex and Em" concluded. It is witty and funny and shows us how happiness can (and should) somehow be found in the little things of this short life we live.
Overall it's a good read, and you can give it try if you have some time to kill.
