Dr Sheths : Daily Cleanser, Youth Glotion and Daily Peel

Written by: Swati on:

You know my love for skincare by now (I hope). I like to give new products which sound prominsing a try and I am always on a quest to find better products that deliver better. When Dr Sheth's came out with their range of products, I had to try them out! Especially after seeing people talk a lot about how good they are....

I started with the Basic Brightening Youth Glotion (as I was on the lookout of a daily moisturizer then) and shortly after, added the Basic Brightening Daily Cleanser and Extra Gentle Daily Peel to the stash too. It has been over a month of using these products and it is time I shared my thoughts with you all.

1) Basic Brightening Daily Cleanser

Let me begin by saying that the Kama Ayurveda Rose Jasmine Cleanser has been my all time favourite (HG status) cleanser since over 2 years now. My thoughts on this, naturally, will be compared to the Kama cleanser. I was apprehensive to try out a new one naturally and was glad that this was available in a 50 ml size.

This is a tranparent gel with pink granules. It does a decent job of foaming (a bit more compared to the Kama Ayurveda Rose Jasmine) and cleanses well too. It did not break me out
I however find it a slight bit more drying in comparison overall. And I do not get why. It has some pretty good hydrating ingredients after all - almond oil, glycerin, rosehip seed extract, vit E.

It works well on really hot/humid days (which are rare in Bangalore) and I can see it working well in hotter cities in summer. But for the slightly cooler and dry weather here, it makes my face feel a bit stretchy which I do not like. This bottle is almost over and I will not repurchase this.

2) Basic Brightening Youth Glotion

Dr Sheth's has 2 Glotions. I picked up this variant since it has Niacinamide - brightening, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing. My skin was beginning to feel quite dry in the colder Bangalore weather and I needed a decent moisturizer. It did a good job of moisturising my skin in the cooler climate. One pump was more than enough for me (I have combination skin) and I was using this everyday in February-March. However, my skin isn't as parched now, so I don't quite like using it everyday.

I did not see any major improvement in my skin with this one, (texture/ radiance/brightening/scars) and I used it long enough (half way through the bottle) for a product to be able to show some difference. It did a good job of moisturising but I would leave it at that. Using it on and off now to use up the product.

Update : Got impatient and finished it up by using it on my neck, arms and legs.

I like using ubtans for exfoliation, but lately, I have started to like chemical exfoliation (aka peels) too! The gentle acids work to remove the top dead skin layer to reveal fresher new skin. They penetrate deeper and enhance the skins renewal/turnover process to help get brighter more radiant skin. Plus, they are said to be less damaging to skin compared to physical scrubs. No harsh particles you see.
And this one says that it can be used daily....You see why I was attracted to the product right?
Dr Sheth's recommends to gradually increase the use of this one (1/week, 2/week...until your skin gets used to it)

I still don't use it daily - more like 2-3 times a week. I apply a small amount and leave it overnight. It is gentle on the skin (for me) and does not sting. It does tingle mildly though (for a couple of minutes).
I have however failed to see any noticeable results from it. No brightening, no radiance, no helping with the acne scars. I have some better chemical exfoliants in my stash which work wonderfully (I shall talk about them soon!).

I had read some good reviews about this and had high hopes (It would have been thrilling to find a chemical exfoliant at this price!) but this just did not work for me. If you have been using this as advised, kindly let me know how it fared on you!

Update : Passed the bottle on to Smriti (who has dry skin) after using half of it & she has had the same experience - it does nothing for her too. Maybe it might show some results for beginners.

I am disappointed with the Dr Sheth's line of products. I had high hopes from these and they failed to impress me. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad i.e. they did not cause any adverse reactions on my skin. But they did a very basic job and there are better products available which do much more. I would rather invest in those.

* Please remember that skincare is different for everyone and skincare products work differently too. What works for me might not work for you and you might like the products that did not work well for me. So, it could be that these didn't work for my skin.
Have you tried Dr Sheth's? What do you think? Let me know!

xoxo,
Swati
