Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara : Review

I prefer using drugstore mascaras. Simply because :
Mascaras get bad real soon. They tend to dry up or start to smell funky & you can use one for 6 months maximum. There's no way I am going to burn a hole in my pocket getting a high-end one only to toss it out in a few months.
Frankly, I haven't tried mascaras from a lot of drugstore brands, just a few. Maybelline makes really good mascaras in my opinion. One of the best ones in the drugstore.
I mean, given how the brand came into existence it only makes sense.
Trivia time?
Maybelline was founded in 1915, New York City by Thomas Lyle Williams who noticed his sister Mabel applying a mixture of vaseline & coal dust to her eyelashes for a darker, fuller look. It led to him producing a product sold locally called Lash-Brow-Ine. Williams renamed his eye beautifier Maybelline in her honor. In 1917, the company produced Maybelline Cake Mascara, "the first modern eye cosmetic for everyday use," and Ultra Lash, the first mass-market automatic, in the 1960s.
Their Hypercurl mascara was my first ever mascara back in college. Their Falsies original was my all-time favourite mascara (reviewed HERE). Both Smriti & I loved it & I purchased it over and over again without giving any thought to other mascaras.
Of course, they had to discontinue it! Why do brands discontinue good products?
But I am glad that they brought out the Lash Sensational mascara to fill the void. I don't know what I would have done otherwise. I really wasn't looking forward to going on a mascara hunt.
The breakdown...
- Packaging- Plump rose gold sturdy plastic tube. The cap screws on tight.
- Wand- Slightly Curved with plastic bristles, they call it a Fanning Brush. It's not super thick like the Colossal wand which I like, but initially, as I was not used to the wand I did poke myself in the eye a couple of times, especially if I used it in a hurry. I don't anymore. Still, don't make the flexible brush do the samba near your eye. Just sayin'.
- Variants- Comes in both Washable & Waterproof variants. Take your pick!
- Claims - To deliver supple, separated lashes that never feel weighed down. Yes, it separates the lashes well. Yes, they do not feel weighed down. Yes, it fans out the lashes well.
- The mascara isn't too runny, or too thick.

Do I want The Falsies back? Yes. I really do not like wearing false lashes. I just cannot. It is very uncomfortable. And the Falsies mascara gave me beautiful dramatic lashes, as much as a mascara could give.
Will the Lash Sensational replace The Falsies for me? Probably not. Both mascaras give a different effect and it won't replace what the latter did for me.
But for now, since it looks that The Falsies aren't coming back, the Lash Sensational work nicely. I like it, it is a really good mascara that does work well and make the lashes look fanned out and long and fluttery.
It's a new love affair, but nothing replaces your first love does it?
