Aveda Cherry Almond Shampoo & Conditioner

Written by: Swati on:

While I do not experiment with my skincare products a lot, I do love trying out new things in haircare and switch between shampoos & conditioners often.

When Aveda launched in India a while back, the first thing I picked up from their range was the Cherry Almond Softening Shampoo & Conditioner. I usually love the smell of almonds for bodycare (L'occitane Almond Range I am looking at you!) & extending that to haircare seemed like a no brainer. I have repurchased this duo 3 times over the past 2 years and I think it's about time to pen down my thoughts.

Fun fact : They had a previous version of this called Cherry Almond Bark which was released in 1978! It was discontinued in 2008 but has been re-released as the Cherry Almond range now :)
I love the fragrance of both the products - slightly floral but with that typical almond hint which is slightly bitter but in a good way. It's not too fruity nor too sweet which I love - sort of like a grown up fragrance. The fragrance doesn't last for long, which is a pro or a con depending on your preference. I wish it lasted longer.

The packaging is pretty too - natural coloured body with magenta caps, quite minimal & chic looking. The shampoo has a press disc top cap & the conditioner is a soft squeezable tube with a flip top cap.

Babassu and coconut-derived ingredients deeply, yet gently cleanse hair while maintaining healthy lipids and oils. Naturally-derived cherry blossom and sweet almond oil restore softness and shine from roots to ends leaving hair feeling touchably soft and full of weightless bounce.*

Infuses hair, with a sweet, juicy floral pure-fume aroma containing 38 flower and plant essences including tonka bean, certified organic orange and ylang ylang.

• 97% naturally derived**, color-safe
• For all lengths of normal to dry hair, especially long hair
• Gluten free. Vegan. Silicone free.

Ingredients - Water\Aqua\Eau, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Propanediol, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Hydroxypropylsulfonate Laurylglucoside Crosspolymer, Babassuamidopropyl Betaine, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Prunus Serrulata Flower (Cherry) Extract, Glycerin, Glycol Distearate, Acrylates Copolymer, Polyquaternium-10, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance (Parfum), Linalool, Geraniol, Limonene, Sodium Phytate, Benzoic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate

The consistency is pretty much like a regular shampoo. It has a pearly appearance & produces average lather. It cleans the scalp & hair well. I have used it after oiling my hair and it manages to remove oil well - I do like shampooing twice whenever I apply hair oil.
I have used the shampoo alone, without conditioner, and it leaves my hair pretty okay. Not too dry nor tangled up. It gives some volume to my otherwise straight-ish slightly limp hair.

Overall, I quite like the Cherry Almond duo - they aren't out of the ordinary spectacular products for me, but they are good. Especially if I want to use hair products which are silicone free. They do their job well and don't weight my hair down. They also did not aggravate any hair or scalp problems (hair fall, flakes, itching etc) for me which is a bonus. I also enjoy the fragrance of this range, it makes the experience of washing hair better for me.

I am not very strict with ingredients for my haircare products and I do not mind using sulphates or silicones usually. So keeping that in mind these two aren't a must have for me. There are other shampoos & conditioners which I also like & those are cheaper too :D
I do enjoy using the Cherry Almond shampoo & conditioner on & off but they are not my regular repurchases.

* For reference, my hair has never been coloured or chemically treated. I have fairly straight, low frizz hair.

xoxo,
Swati
