It's no news that I love the Klairs Fundamental line. Having tried almost ALL! of the products in this range (read about them here), I thought I could give the last one a go and added their Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel to my stash. I've been using it for the past 3 months and surprise, surprise...I love it too! And before you think it, no, I am not biased...this range is just that good! Read on.

What the brand says : This gel moisturizer contains caffeine and red bean extract to maintain your eye area clean and fresh. It improves dark circles and skin tone while helping with de-puffing and anti-oxidizing. The gel applies with a cool and hydrating sensation to provide a refreshing finish. The quick absorption enables you to take care of your eye area even in busy mornings.

The formula has a lot of beneficial ingredients :
- Peptide mix: copper tripeptide which improves firmness & helps with fine lines ; acetyl hexapeptide which is also called the "botox peptide" which gives immediate smoothening & plumping ; oligopeptide-29 & 32
- Caffeine which is a good antioxidant and helps reduce puffiness & stimulates blood circulation
- Mugwort (a fave ingredient of mine!) which helps soothe & heal
- Humectants & emollients like glycerin, jojoba oil, argan oil, sodium PCA,
- More antioxidants like tocopherol, red bean, green tea & purslane

The Fundamental Eye Awakening Gel comes in a minimal looking transparent plastic bottle with a pump, making it easy to see how much product you have left and very convenient to dispense it.
A full pump dispenses a sizeable quantity and I usually don't need that much, so I use half a pump instead - the bottle should last me 6 months easily.

The translucent gel has a light watery texture, spreads on the skin well, might feel a little tacky while dabbing in but it doesn't feel heavy or sticky once it is absorbed completely. It adds hydration and a touch of moisture, leaving the skin feeling soft & smoother to touch.

  • I love using this in my morning routine especially since the gel feels refreshing and cooling. My skin feels comfortable enough when I use the gel alone, but if you have extremely dry skin around the eyes, you can layer an eye cream over it. There are days, especially now in the winter, when I add a thin layer of the Fundamental Nourishing Eye Butter over it which dials things up a notch - my eyes feel extremely pampered & cocooned in goodness. Or some days I just layer my regular basic moisturizer over it.
  • For me, the gel tightens & depuffs the under-eye area slightly which is helpful on days when I wake up with mild puffiness. I apply the gel under the eyes and use my ring finger to gently massage the area. It smoothens the fine lines, to an extent. This effect is temporary and I don't expect it to be permanent either - if I stop taking care of the eye area, those lines will come back.
  • In terms of dark circles, I don't think it will have a huge effect, especially if the cause is internal or hereditary or due to bone structure. But if there is darkness due to dehydration or dryness & subsequent rubbing & friction, the gel will help reduce that. Having said that, if you have dryer under eyes then the Nourishing Eye Butter is a better fit.
Price : 1740 INR for 35ml

It is a very good eye care product particularly for people who have oily-sensitive-dehydrated skin if they want to use something light as a preventative measure for well-ageing or to minimize fine lines a little. It would also work incredibly well for people in their late teens or in their 20s. You can definitely use it if you are older, I do! It's packed with a bunch of fabulous ingredients and I love using it in the morning because of how hydrating the formula is while not being too heavy.
