Tony Moly The Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Essence

It's been almost a year since I've been using the Tony Moly Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Essence, but you know me (and Swati) 😅 we always try to make sure we have tested any skincare for a long time before we share our thoughts and experience with it. We also tend to procrastinate a lot 🙈

With summers in India being particularly harsh, I'm always on the lookout for fresh feeling products that not only leave my skin breathable, but also incorporate some properties to combat photo-damage. Green tea, being a powerhouse of anti-oxidants and generally having a light formulation, tops the list and that's why I went searching for a nice serum or essence to incorporate into my routine.

The Tony Moly Chok Chok Essence caught my eye almost immediately because of its high percentage of green tea extract. Tony Moly has essentially replaced water (aqua) in all formulations of this range with fermented green tea extract that ensures potent goodness for the skin.

What the brand says : The Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Essence contains the moisture of fermented green tea cultivated by sunlight, wind and nature throughout the four seasons. The highly concentrated moisture essence in formulated with over 80% Green Tea extract and helps quench skins thirst as it delivers moisture deep into the skin.
Our Chok Chok collection features a special fermented Korean green tea called 'ChungTaeJeon' with over a thousand years of history. 'ChungTaeJeon', the world's first naturally fermented green tea, is fermented through sunlight for over 365 days and provides gentle yet intense moisture and hydration that lasts.

Ingredients  : Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (81%), Cyclomethicone, Methylpropanediol, PPG-14 Butyl Ether, Alcohol, Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Seed Oil, Aniba Rosaeodora (Rosewood) Wood Oil, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, 1,2-Hexanediol, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA

The product has a really unique gel to water texture. Even though it pumps out as an opaque gel, it transforms into a watery essence as soon as you begin to massage it in. Since the essence is so lightweight, my skin drinks it up immediately, and I'm left with a wonderfully fresh feel and a slightly plumped appearance. Any dewiness that's noticeable fades in a short while.

I'd say this essence is good for deep hydration, not moisturization. If you have oily skin, you'll love it. Those with dry skin, like me, will need to follow up with a decent moisturizer to lock in the hydration. Regardless of skin type, if you have dehydration issues, the Chok Chok Green Tea Essence will help you take care of it.

Apart from the hydration and anti-oxidant benefits because of the fermented green tea, this product also contains Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, a new generation Vitamin C that's highly stable and soluble in both water and oil. I especially liked this inclusion because not only does Vit C protect the skin against free radical damage due to excessive sun (or blue light from our screens), but also brightens it making The Chok Chok essence a perfect pick for summer!

With regular use, I could see my skin looking healthier, and dullness due to sun damage was kept at a minimum (though sunscreen helped in this regard a lot too).

This product goes onto my 'to-repurchase' list simply because of how elegantly light it is. Since my skin is dry and dehydrated, I really appreciate that the Chok Chok essence allows me to layer hydration, even in the summer, without feeling greasy. The addition of a stable Vitamin C in this formulation is a bonus, and means I can cut down on an extra brightening serum in my routine. Come summer, I'll surely be buying it again.

Smriti
