Mash'd Elements Face Washes Review

Written by: Swati on:

It's not every day that a brand manages to leave a favourable first impression on me even before I've had a chance to try their products. Mash'd Elements, however, has proven to be quite the exception! When they sent a few products my way, the brand kindly enclosed a copy of lab reports pertaining to safety tests conducted on their product. Their efforts to maintain transparency is refreshing & certainly welcome.

Let's talk about their face washes/cleansers today!

They currently offer 3 variants of face washes for different skin types & needs. All three variants have :
- Low pH (4.5 to 5)
- Gentle surfactants ; Mild lather
- No added fragrance
- Thicker viscous gel texture

1) Daily Glow
Ingredients : Aqua, Glycerine, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyethylene Glycol-150 Distearate, Glycolic Acid, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol And Ethylhexylglycerin, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Amitos), Potassium Hydroxide, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, DiMethyl DiMethylol Hydantoin, Di Sodium EDTA

I've been using this the most. It cleanses my skin well, without stripping it. I haven't noticed major brightening effects in this short span of time, but since it's a wash-off product I would need to use it for longer. However, I notice that my skin feels noticeably smoother whenever I use it....perhaps because this has Glycolic Acid (AHA) & Papaya extracts (enzyme exfoliant).

Price : 549 INR for 100ml

2) Clarity

Ingredients : Aqua, Glycerine, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyethylene Glycol-150 Distearate, Salicylic Acid, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol And Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea), Tea Tree Magic, Menthyl Lactate, Menthol, DiMethyl DiMethylol Hydantoin, Di Sodium EDTA.

This has a mild minty scent & leaves a cool sensation on the skin. Since it contains Salicylic Acid (BHA), it will help to decongest pores & keep them clean, thereby reducing comedones & potential breakouts. The formula also has a small amount of Green Tea & Tea Tree extracts (probably less than 1% since it comes after Phenoxyethanol in the INCI list). This variant is a good option for oily skin, combination skin prone to breakouts and congestion (blackheads & whiteheads). I'm looking forward to using it more in the summertime when my skin turns more oily.

Price : 599 INR for 100ml

3) Rise & Shine

Ingredients : Aqua, Glycerine, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyethylene Glycol-150 Distearate, Glycolic Acid, Polysorbate 80, Phenoxyethanol And Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Geranium Oil, DiMethyl DiMethylol Hydantoin, Di Sodium EDTA, Saffron

This has a mild earthy scent. The formula has Glycolic acid (AHA) which will help reduce surface texture & dullness. There's also some amount of turmeric extract in the formula, although it's low (less than 1% since it comes after Phenoxyethanol in the INCI list). Keep in mind that the formula has geranium oil, in case essential oils don't suit you. Overall, it's a good pick for anyone looking for an AHA based exfoliating cleanser.

Price : 599 INR for 100ml

These face washes cleansed my skin well, without stripping it too much. I didn't get that dry stretchy feeling post-wash, which is great...I really detest that squeaky clean feeling. The cleansers will remove dirt, grime & normal sunscreen...however, if you are wearing makeup and waterproof sunblock then I recommend doing a double cleanse (use micellar water, cleansing oil or balm first).

In my opinion, these cleansers are worth looking into and a good option especially for anyone looking to introduce their skin to chemical exfoliants. Since these are wash-off products, they won't stay on the skin for more than 60 seconds making them ideal for beginners. They run discounts on their website once in a while, and that will be a good time to pick these up.
