Shaving Part 2 : “Shaving makes skin dry and flaky”

Written by: Swati on:

Hello all! Last week I shared about the Gillette Bloggers Meet and how I would be taking up the 30 days #SubscribetoSmooth challenge with them.
Even though I am not new to shaving and the Gillette Venus razor has been in my stash for years now.

Myth 1: “Shaving leads to dry and flaky skin”

At the blogger event, I had the chance of speaking to Dr. Rashmi Shetty and here's what she had to say - Shaving, when done correctly, ensures removal of the top layer of skin which ultimately helps to make it smoother.

My experience :

I won't lie, I have shaved before too back in my older teen years & I wasn't quite satisfied with the outcome then. I knew I was doing something wrong, afterall hundereds of women do use shaving as a hair removal method.

After some research, I figured that the problem was proper lubrication, regular moisturization & exfolation.

You need to make sure that the skin is well lubricated while you shave. This ensures that the blades glides over the skin easily and the friction is minimal.

So what you essentially need to do is : Shave while in the shower. Give a few minutes into your shower which makes the skin damp and then go in with your shaving gel.  It  you will give you closer smoother shave. Apply a coin sized amount of the Satin Care Gel and lather it up nicely.
If you don't have a shaving gel, try a good quality shower oil or gel - something which is not harsh and not highly fragranced. Something that is hydrating enough.

Make sure to use a clean sharp cartridge to avoid going over the same area over and over again and do not apply too much pressure.

* Pat dry once you are done. Try not to rub your freshly shaved skin vigorously with a towel. Pat gently.

* Apply a light body lotion -  Preferably non fragranced lotion non irritating. I personally love Aloe Vera Gel!

Shaving doesn't need to make the skin dry and flaky provided you do it right and follow the above pointers.

If you have any doubts or questions feel free to ask me in the comments below or mail me at [email protected] :)

I'll be back next week busting a new myth for you all :)
