Ohria Ayurveda Kansa Face Massage Wand

Written by: Swati on:

When it comes to face massages, I am a lazy bum. I know how important they are & their benefits, but honestly, I used to do a face massage once in 45 days or so!
Now, about to touch 30 & determined to keep my skin healthy (well....it's scary to be reaching 30!), I have been getting more & more regular with face massages. It is tough & not something I am used to doing daily, because my younger self could have gotten away with it. Not any more!

Also, I am all about doing as much skincare as possible at home. Naturally, I looked for tools that can make facial massages easier by self.
So, in the past few months I have tried a couple of tools - Jade rollers & Gua Sha. I will speak about them in a seperate post soon!

Today is all about something very much Indian - Our own ancient art of massaging for natural radiance. There is a reason why century old rituals are popular even today - They Work!

Let's talk about the KANSA WAND!

The kansa wand is basically a beauty/wellness tool made of wood with a metal head - Kansa ie 3 metals - Copper Tin Zinc. Together they reduce skin acidity & pull out deep-seated toxins
* Copper reduces inflammation
* Tin reduces anxiety
* Zinc enhances immunity

A face massage basically helps in -
* Lymphatic drainage = detoxification
* Increased blood circulation = more nourishment to the skin
* Muscle relaxation

You can check out Vasudha Rai's video here to know more about how face massages go beyond cosmetic benefits. She talks in depth about Abhyanga & Prana & Marma points - where they are & how the Kansa wand stimulates them. She also demonstrates the entire massage. So make sure to check it out.
She inspired me to get my hands on this!

I have been using the Kansa wand for almost a month now. And I do see changes in my skin.
What I absolutely love about the kansa wand is that it is so easy to use! You cannot go overboard with this or apply more force which can damage your skin.

Remember to always :

  • Keep this wand in a pouch else the metal will turn black due to air exposure.
  • Always use an oil while massaging to help glide the tool over your skin without any tugging. The oil must be not be acidic!!

Ohria Ayurveda have a Srikamya beauty oil which is meant to be used with the Kansa wand (a blend of sesame, almond, jojoba & carrot seed oil + lots of amazing herbs!). I have not used that yet, but I have been using pure cold pressed almond oil & it is working fine for me so far.

The 3 movements you can do with this tool are :

Zig-Zag - on your forehead, bridge of nose & neck
Round - on the forehead, temples, sides of nose, corners of mouth, around the mouth.
Round & Up - on the sides of face, side of the mouth & jawline
Figure of 8 - around the eyes

On a physical level the Kansa wand massage makes the skin plumper, de-puffs the eyes, firms the jawline & cheekbones and tones facial muscles = a Natural Face-Lift!

On a deeper level - It unblocks engery and ensures a smooth flow of Prana. It stimulates & helps drain the lymph nodes which promotes detoxification thus helping make the skin clearer & more radiant. It draws out the acidity in the skin thus balancing pH levels (this is visible by the grey layer forming on the skin & the metal. Less the grey layer= less acidic your skin)
But you will need to be patient and regular with it! You will not see the deeper effects miraculously in 1 go.

So, should you use this one instead of a Jade Roller?

Well,
 I do prefer the Kansa wand over the jade roller. The pressure you get with both is very different. The massage motions is also different with these. But ultimately it comes down to personal preferance.
I will share my thoughts on Jade Rollers soon!

Price : 2550 INR (available here ).

If you are a beginner into the world of face massages, then I highly recommend the Kansa Face Massage Wand. It is super easy to use & will help your skin inside out.
Also, if you are someone who hold al lot of tension in your face/facial muscles, then the Kansa wand will be better suited to you than a jade roller.

**If you are allergic to zinc, copper or tin, then please stay away from this.

Swati

P.S. There are other Kansa wands available online which you can check out if this one feels expensive. I cannot recommend them since I haven't tried them. But feel free to go ahead if you find a good & aunthentic one! :)
