The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Ever since I have shared my love for the Glam Glow Supermud mask, many of you have been asking for alternatives to that one.
Of course, the steep price tag of the GlamGlow mask makes it a bit unreasonable. After my 15ml mini tub got over, I wanted to buy the full size of it but kept delaying it for months as well.

In the meantime, I actively searched for possible replacements which were a bit more affordable. There are a good number of charcoal masks available in the market today (& I tried many) but I was looking for something quite specific & I think I have found that in The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Claiming to refine & revive your skin this 100% vegan mask is infused with bamboo charcoal, green tea leaves & tea tree oil. It is also free of parabens, mineral oil, paraffin & silicone. All good things!

The glass jar is quite sturdy & feels high-end. I would have preferred a squeezy tube personally - easy to use & you do not need to dip your fingers into the tub. But this is manageable too.

The mask is a greenish-grey smooth base along with big chunky green tea leaves. It spreads well & I prefer using a brush with this one usually. The leaves do not feel scratchy
It also has some fine granules. I do not know what they are but they help in mild exfoliation.

You get a mild tingling sensation as soon as you apply the mask - very similar to GlamGlow Supermud. The mask smells amazing & relaxing which is always a plus & dries down like a typical clay mask.

However, unlike the GlamGlow Supermud, this is quite difficult to remove. It will not wash off easily - thanks to the green tea leaves which stick on your skin. You need multiple rinses to get them off. So be patient with this one!

So, does it work?
Well yes. It does work well, to an extent.
  • Absorbs excess oil
  • Skin feels clean & the pores feel purified
  • Gives some brightness (due to the above 2 points) though, that is temporary.
  • Skin feels smooth as the small beads & green tea leaves provide gentle exfoliation
  • It isn't as good in controlling/healing acne & breakouts as the GlamGlow Supermud.

Price : 645 INR for 15ml ; 2195 INR for 75ml (available HERE)

If you have wanted a cheaper alternative to the GlamGlow Supermud, then the TBS Himalayan Charcoal mask might be the best one!
Yes, it isn't exactly cheap but it is more affordable than the GlamGlow masks.
I would say that the Himalayan Charcoal is about 85% (maybe 90%) similar & you would get almost the same results.
For me, it doesn't control breakouts in the same way as Supermud does. But it does clean the skin & clogged pores well. Overall, I am quite pleased with TBS Himalayan Charcoal & will repurchase it for sure.
