Beauty Of Joseon Calming Serum

If you have been paying close attention to my usual skincare picks, you will notice that I have a soft spot for products that are soothing, calming and barrier supportive. Put these words in the description of a product and I am definitely interested in picking it up. This is why I got hold of the Beauty Of Joseon Calming Serum. I didn't really need it as I had a fair share of calming products already. But being on a Korean skincare journey I wanted to try out BeautyofJoseon and this serum felt like the perfect fit for me.

What the brand says: A calming serum that soothes irritated skin with a bunch of other skin benefits. Enriched with more than 76% green tea leaf water it majorly helps improve skin damaged by UV rays. UV rays are the main cause of skin darkening and stimulate aging. It suppresses the synthesis of the melanin pigment caused by UV rays and removes free radicals that promote aging, thereby helping to keep skin clearer. Also high natural content of Vitamin C in green tea improves overall skin tone. Panthenol ingredient helps keep skin smooth and supple and cica (centella asiatica) calms.
Beauty of Joseon is a cruelty-free brand that formulates its products without artificial fragrance, colorants, phenoxyethanol, mineral oil, parabens, sulfates, PEGs, EU allergens. Best for oily, combination & normal skin type
Ingredients: Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Water, Methylpropanediol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Panthenol, Pentylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract, Propolis Extract, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Betaine, Octanediol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Allantoin, Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Polyquaternium-51, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Sodium Phytate, Dextrin, Tocopherol

The serum has a beautiful leaf green colour and comes in transparent plastic bottle which feels sturdy & looks quite cute. It's extremely light in texture with a bit of viscosity to it, absorbs quickly and doesn't feel like much on the skin once absorbed. The thin texture makes it well suited for a multi layering routine.

My Skin Type : Combination-Sensitive-Slightly Dehydrated-Acne Prone

I usually use this in my morning routine, 2-3 drops layered after an essence. Since the serum is very light, I preferred using it during the hot humid summer months. It doesn't quite fulfil the hydration needs of my skin alone during the dry winter season and I need to layer richer, more hydrating products with it to get optimal hydration levels.

Coming to how well it works, I feel it did an okay job? I haven't noticed exceptional calming benefits with it yet. It is mild - hasn't caused any irritation or reactions and it adapted well with my other products. And it is a nice light serum to use in the summer when my skin can feel a little oily.
However, when I compare it to the calming & soothing benefits some of my other products give, this serum fell short for me. It's not a bad product, just that it didn't too much, or as much as I had expected it to. I thought this would be as calming as the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream or the I'm From Mugwort Essence is for my skin, if not more.

Who will it work for?
Given that the serum is a soothing & calming one it will suit most skin types but will work especially well for sensitive/irritated skin, prone to redness & inflammation. It will work for oily skin all year round & combination skin during summers.

Price : 1499 INR for 30ml

Will I repurchase it?
I don't think so. For me it wasn't worth the price. Especially since I have other products containing similar ingredients which work better for my skin needs. I was fine using it, it didn't cause any problems, but it didn't impress me enough to buy it again.

That being said, the formula is good, packed with fantastic ingredients and you can consider giving it a try if you have oily sensitive skin in need of some calming and if you cannot tolerate heavier formulas or creams or if you like layering light soothing products in between your skincare routine.

Swati
