Cannes 2013 : Day 1 & 2

I'm sure all of you all are aware that the 66th annual Cannes Flim Festival is currently going on (from 15 to
26 May 2013). Now this is a bit late I know, but here's what our Bollywood beauties wore. Take a look but beware, it's pic heavy..!

* Sonam Kapoor went traditional on the red carpet in an Anamika Khanna sari with an embroidered jacket, completing the desi look with just a kundan nath (from her mother's jewellery collection). Yawn for all neck-pieces and cuffs and earrings- Sonam took statement jewellery to the next level in one move! We like how the nath stands out as a strong tribute to her Indian roots. The sari was an elegant lace affair, delicate and feminine, and a hint of edginess was introduced by the heavily embroidered jacket, the length of which lent a gown-like look to her sari. Her sister Rhea Kapoor styled her outfit, and we say good job done!

As its brand ambassador, she promoted the new L'OR Sunset collection by L'Oreal. Dark berry lips, dramatically winged eyeliner, and strong brows and contouring worked together with the matte base evoking an earthy yet ethereal look. And the soft pink blush *love*.
We think it's how anyone would imagine the strong Indian woman of today- a woman at par with the world, but firmly ensconced in her culture.
Her hair is in a soft vintage style bun which ups the glamour, while Jimmy Choo shoes tie the whole look together.

(Does anyone else feel her look is reminiscent of Rekha?)

* Day 2 saw her in a custom made Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Coutre Gown at the 'Jeune & Jolie' premiere. Jewellery By Sunita Kapoor completed the look.
We liked her side swept hair in soft waves and the strapless neckline, the colour of the gown and the natural makeup, but the dress in general is just hits you with a  'disney princess' vibe. Poofy. You see what's happening here, right? We'd all love to try the whole princess thing.. but you need a kingdom to go with it, the four poster bed with curtains around it and oh yes, a charming prince :P... *hmm.. wishes wishes* Such a voluminous skirt looks good only in 2D. But the floral print is bang-on trendy, we like!

* The day ended at the Chopard Party in a Shehla Khan couture lehenga, Chopard jewellery & a Ferragamo clutch. Again we liked the soft hair updo but maybe a different necklace would have worked better.. what do you think?

* Freida Pinto wore a custom made Gucci silk chiffon halter gown in a pretty coral shade. A gold embellished belt and shoes added the perfect amount of bling to the plain gown and Chopard jewellery completed the look

Braided and knotted hair is still raging on the red carpet, as Freida shows us here. A ring on the index finger and the hanging earrings keep her look classy yet fun. Soft makeup with a dewy base, pinky brown MLBB lips, black eyeliner and kajal with lots of mascara and false lashes and a complementing pink plummy blush and that smile = perfect red carpet recipe!

* At the Jeune & Jolie premire, she rocked the red carpet again in a custom made Sanchita gown, with a high side slit, plunging back and heavy bead work all over.

She sported a nice orange-red pout and a retro hairstyle to go with it, complete with finger waves and accessorized with blingy clips. The dewy base and subtle use of highlighter made her skin look flawless. On the eyes, smudged eyeliner, precise use of kajal, and false lashes with oodles of mascara kept things feminine and soft. (We say, first date appropriate!) Lastly, a hint of colour on her cheeks with a peachy orange blush.

* Vidya Balan who is on the jury this year, went all traditional.. every time! And Sabyasachi Mukherjee all the way.
At the opening ceremony, she donned a monochrome embroidered lehenga with a heavy border which was gorgeous yes.. expect for the head drape (errrr... it's just a bit too much desi! Why? Oh why?! ) And a heavy gold diamond neck piece and bindi to accessorize.

The make-up look was minimal letting her shine in all her bronzed Indian glory with heavily kohled eyes. ( Personally though, we wouldn't like to copy it)

* For the Jury Photocall, she looked gorgeous in a white gold sari with a full sleeved embellished black blouse.

We loved the sari. Loved the blouse design and the soft make-up. Again nicely kohled eyes, natural brown eyeshadow, strong brows, a MLBB lip colour and a matte base. We liked those earrings too. Not very sure about the beaded neck piece though, it doesnt seem to go with the whole look somehow.

* For a cocktail party she was dressed in a maroon and black lehenga with a high neck full sleeved top. Hair pulled back in a tight braid, jhumkas by Amrapali a small black bindi and a vintage watch to finish the look.. again very desi, but we liked this time.

A flawless matte base, earthy brown blush, nude brown lip colour and matte black eyes which were heavy but neat, the look is quite wearable. We like!

* Loved this green dress worn by Freida here! Vibrant and classy.

* I know this is out of Bollywood, but we loved Emma Watson's dresses!
And her barely there, no make-up make-up look! Did we mention the simple but pretty hair do? And the blingy earrings. Love it all  :)

* A Christopher Kane feather trimmed top and skirt in  gorgeous rich maroon.

* Also, couldn't help but share Nicole Kidman's sparkly shift dress and strappy heels. The bright red pout with orange undertones was adding colour to the whole look, while the sleek straight hair lent an air of sophistication. Perfect.
