Herbal Essences Aloe + Bamboo Shampoo & Conditioner (Sulphate Free)

Written by: Swati on:

Let me begin this post by telling you that I love the Herbal Essences Argan Oil Shampoo - I have already reviewed the shampoo & conditioner HERE in case you want to take a look. I have also mentioned the argan range many times on Instagram

So when I saw that they had come out with newer variants, I wanted to check them out. There were 2 new ones - Aloe + Bamboo and Aloe + Eucalyptus, out of which the former appealed to me more. I have used the shampoo around 6-7 times and the conditioner 2-3 times under different circumstances, so let's dig in and find out how they worked on my hair!

The bottles are transparent green hued plastic with a flip-top cap. I will advise you to be a little bit careful with the caps because in my experience they can break at the hinge easily. I like the way the bottles look overall.

Both the shampoo & conditioner have a floral-fresh fragrance - it is strong and can be overpowering for sensitive noses. I personally really like the smell...a bit more than the Argan range. The smell doesn't stay on the hair too long (it's a pity, coz I would have liked it to linger). It does however make my bathroom smell fabulous and I enjoy the fragrance while bathing :D

1) Herbal Essences Aloe + Bamboo Shampoo

Transparent, runny consistency. It lathers really well - I was pleasantly surprised considering it is sulphate free. It cleans the hair well and if I have oiled my hair, it takes away the oil completely too - I always do 2 rounds of shampoo whenever I oil my hair.

Here's the funny thing though : It cleans the hair, BUT, I feel that the product doesn't wash away completely....like there is a layer left behind on my hair, which I can feel while rinsing the shampoo. However, when the hair dries completely, it doesn't feel oily or sticky or greasy. It feels quite ok honestly, but my hair doesn't have the usual bounce or volume.

(Imagine oiling the hair & shampooing it, but then the oil doesn't wash away completely and then you feel a light layer of something behind while washing. This is how this makes my hair feel like while rinsing it.  No it doesn't leave oil behind....don't get confused ok?... it just "feels" like it does, a little bit).

Which makes me wonder....does it leave a layer behind or is the shampoo supposed to make the hair feel that way while rinsing? Coz after drying it doesn't feel so. I don't know :/
If any of you have used it and experienced something similar, please share your thoughts in the comments below.

2) Herbal Essences Aloe + Bamboo Conditioner

A medium rich cream consistency, this conditioner spreads well on the lengths of my hair. I keep it on for 2-3 minutes and it rinses away easily.

It doesn't leave my hair looking as silky as I am used to with my other conditioners, but it kept my hair tangle-free and it did not weigh my hair down (I have fine hair which can get flat & limp easily).

Now, here's a problem I have : The brand markets this conditioner as being sulphate free and paraben free. While I appreciate that it doesn't have sulphates, I do not have any problem with parabens.
From what I have read & know, parabens aren't really harmful and get a bad name unnecessarily.

So, if Herbal Essences went through the trouble to make the shampoo silicone free, why couldn't they have done the same with the conditioner?! Does my point make sense to you?

I would have loved to see this conditioner without silicones. We don't have many options in the Indian market at this price point and it would have been great to have one. But the conditioner has silicone, and if I am using one that does, I rather pick their Argan conditioner which works better for me and is also cheaper than this variant.

Do I think it's a good range?
Sure. The shampoo & conditioner do their job. They weren't extraordinary for me, but if you like using sulphate free & paraben free products then you could look into these. Neither of them has caused any problems for me so far.

Will I repurchase it? No.
I don't mind sulphates or parabens in my haircare & their Argan range works much better on my hair. So, if I have to get something from Herbal Essences I will be sticking to that for now :)

Swati
