Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector
Written by: Swati on:
The haircare product I didn't think I needed, but love ever since I've tried it out! There aren't many products that can show visible changes in one use but Olaplex No 3. Hair Perfector is almost like magic in a bottle!
I had tried the in-salon treatment No.1 & 2 back in 2017 (I have an old blog post on it!) and I remember being very impressed with the results. So, when I decided to step up my haircare game and do something to prevent further damage, Olaplex No. 3 was one of the first things that came to my mind and I bought my first bottle in August 2019 (I had to look up my order history :D)
Ingredients : Water (Aqua/Eau), Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Ethylcellulose, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Quaternium-91, Sodium Benzoate, Cetrimonium Methosulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Tetrasodium EDTA, Polyquaternium-37, Benzyl Benzoate, Etidronic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Phytantriol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Panthenol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate
* Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate is their patented ingredient
Now, I've never got my hair chemically treated or coloured so it is not severely damaged. But it has experienced some damage over time - I heat style my hair occasionally & blow dry my hair often especially in the winter. Then there is some environmental damage from the hard water, sun, pollution etc. And some mechanical damage tugging & pulling while brushing. It's not like I absolutely needed Olaplex in my life, but I wanted to preserve what I could, repair the damage & keep a check on it (even if it's not a lot).
What did I experience?
I saw an instant improvement in my hair - it just felt & looked healthier! Ever since I have added No.3 to my routine, I experience lesser breakage, the texture of my hair is a lot better & it feels stronger.
The brand recommends using this weekly if the hair is severely damaged. But since my hair is relatively okay-ish (at least I think it is) I don't use it that often, there's no fixed schedule. It's an on & off use for me. When my hair starts to look a little meh....that's when I like to bring out this baby for some TLC and to add some strength to the locks. I've also added No 4, 5 & 7 since then, but more on those some other day. Let's focus on No.3 today.
What is Olaplex No. 3?⠀
- It's an at-home pre-wash strengthening hair treatment (it is not a conditioner). Use it on clean damp hair for at least 10 minutes Rinse, shampoo & condition as usual.
- The brand says that the efficacy decreases after 30-40 minutes and that the treatment works well till the hair remains damp. I like to keep it on for 1-3 hours, till my hair is damp. I have read some people like to keep it on overnight, but I have not tried it that way yet.

What does it do?
What does it do?
- It helps to repair & rebuild the broken disulfide bonds in the hair - makes it stronger, reduces breakage & improves the quality. You can read in detail about it on their website.
Who is it for?
- All hair types! It is especially beneficial for those who have chemically treated, damaged or brittle hair.
* Remember that this is not a hair mask or a hair conditioner. No. 3 is a strengthening treatment that repairs the bonds of the hair. It works inside out to make the hair stronger. You will see improvement in overall texture & quality with it.

On the downside?

On the downside?
Yes, it is expensive & the quantity is not that much. How long the bottle will last depends on your hair length and frequency of use. I get 3-4 uses out of 1 bottle on my mid-length hair. I wish Olaplex came out with a jumbo size for it! Also, the process is a little time consuming - I need clean hair...dampen it..apply the treatment...keep it on for a while...then wash & condition. I need to plan this in advance & make sure I have the time.
Will I repurchase it?
Yes! I feel that the result is so worth it! I prefer to keep a more affordable shampoo + conditioner for regular use and splurge on this treatment which actually shows improvement & results. And since I don't use it that frequently, one bottle lasts me a while. If you colour/bleach your hair regularly and worry about the toll it's taking on your hair, then I will definitely recommend you trying this out.
Have you tried Olaplex products yet? What are your top picks from their line? Let me know ☺️
