YBP Plant Remedy Calendula Healing Salve

The Plant Remedy calendula healing salve is one the newest additions to my YBP skincare family. If you are new to our blog, welcome! I'm Smriti and I have used the Plant Remedy Skin Elixir Oil ever since it launched, reviewed HERE which is one of the staples in my stash. I invested in the Plant Remedy Calendula Skin Salve a few weeks after I tried out the the Plant Remedy Skin Salve, reviewed HERE, and the YBP Hydrating Serum Mist.
Since I unintentionally over exfoliated my skin, I needed all the healing help I could afford. Calendula is an ingredient well known for its nourishing, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Its oil is also anti fungal and anti bacterial, which makes this a good choice for wound healing and repair.
To put it simply, the sunny blooms of calendula are nature's remedy to address a multitude of skin concerns, and via this salve, YBP has harnessed its raw potential for us to benefit from.
It’s a remedy for every skin condition, from extreme cases of eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, painful cystic acne, sensitive allergy-prone skin, to the occasional cut, scrape or rash. This multi-functional salve helps with building the skin barrier and reduces redness, swelling, and irritation while offering a holistic dose of pure plant goodness and support for the skin’s own healing process. In addition to being a heal-all, this Salve is also an amazing anti-inflammatory facial moisturizer for those with reactive skin and a damaged skin mantle.
Great for using during all trimesters of pregnancy to hydrate and nourish your skin and a stretching belly that needs a little extra care and love. Use it for your little munchkins and newborns because there’s nothing more gentle than this to protect and soothe the most delicate skin out there.
Full Ingredient List: Raw Cacao Butter (Theobroma), Cold-pressed Raw Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), Cold-pressed Raw Hemp Seed Oil (Cannabis Sativa), Whole Calendula Flowers (Calendula Officinalis), Whole Roselle Flowers (Hibiscus Sabdariffa), Ratanjot Roots (Alkanna Tinctoria), Raw Beeswax (Cera Alba), Natural Vitamin E (Tocopherol)
The calendula healing salve comes in a dark amber coloured glass jar with a stopper lid and plastic screw on cap, simple and apothecary-style. Inside is an apricot yellow balm, that has a distinct earthy woody fragrance, with an undercurrent of nutty sweetness (most likely from the calendula and cacao). As this balm is a blend of various oils and butters, its texture varies with the ambient temperature. Mine stays in the fridge so it remains solid.
Despite the solid texture, the calendula salve melts quickly when massaged between my palms, the warmth allowing it to turn into a golden orange oil that leaves my face looking soft and nourished.
I can't explain how much the fragrance of this salve grew on me. When I first received my jar and I took an initial whiff, I didn't like it at all! Seeing how this Plant Remedy Skin Salve smelled heavenly, I was dismayed at how I would be able to slather on this one everyday if my mind labelled the scent funky! With daily use, I found that I could detect many different layers of the fragrance... and somehow, it always manages to take my mind off onto a daydream. I can picture meadows filled with golden calendulas, sometimes untouched forests... running through green lawns... What can I say, I have a vivid imagination! It just adds to the therapeutic experience, giving me a few moments of mental relaxation.
Imagery aside, let's talk about the benefits of this healing salve. Without doubt, I can always feel that my skin is soft and nourished post application, and has the kind of healthy sheen that comes from using oils. I will only be able to comment on its long term effects on my skin after a few months of use, but as of now it hasn't aggravated the problematic phase my skin was going through. I have been using it daily in the morning, as the last step of my regime.
Price : 1350 INR for 30ml
The calendula healing salve is not a transformative skincare product, neither does it claim to be. In my opinion, it's a slow working versatile balm that does what it is designed to do - heal, nourish and calm the skin. While being lighter and quicker absorbing than the Plant Remedy Skin Salve, those with oily skin might still find it heavy. Use only a small amount on damp skin, you really don't need much, and using more won't give you accelerated results.
And as always, remember to be kind to your skin.
xoxo
