L’oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer : Review

Written by: Swati on:

I had my Graduation ceremony in October 2012 and yes I needed to get some essential makeup stuff then. You know how it is right? Now, I have quite oily skin and a primer was one of the first things I needed (considering that it was an all day function and no one can have a face looking like it was dunked in oil by evening). My first preference was the Bourjois one but being out of stock I finally got myself L'Oreal Paris Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer (Phew! Quite a long name!)

It comes in a transparent glass pot packaging and a black screw on lid. It is sturdy and travel friendly and you can see how much product is left behind. Yes, there is hygiene issues with a pot packaging but I do not mind it.

First things first, this is a silicone based primer, so if your skin is allergic to silicones skip it! Having said that, I have oily acne prone skin but this one has not broken me out ever (I must tell you that I do not use it on an everyday basis. This is just for occasional use as far as I am concerned). I really like all the Loreal products I have tried so far, they have never disappointed me and this one didn't either.

The primer is a light pink coloured thick cream. It is very smooth and velvety to touch (considering all the silicones). Despite being thick, it is not greasy at all. A very small quantity is needed for each use and this pot will last you ages.. look at mine, it isn't even half yet. I just use it on my oily areas (mainly the T zone).

It spreads easily, blends nicely (giving a slightly powdery feel), fills out the pores (cannot say about the really large ones) and small lines very well (it will not make them invisible, but they are diminished a lot) and gives a soft matte velvety finish.  It also gives a slight glow. I use it on the eyelids too to smoothen them out and it works okay as an eyeshadow base.
It gives a smooth base to apply your makeup on and hence you will require a lesser quantity of your foundation/BB cream. The makeup stays on longer and it keeps my face oil free and fresh for almost the whole day. You can use it alone too just to smoothen out your face. It will suit all skin types (unless ofcourse you are allergic to silicones). Very dry skinned women might need to use a moisturizer before this. It does not leave a cast of any kind. And oh, before I forget to mention this, you need to pat it and blend it out instead of rubbing.

Notice how it has smoothened out the lines and added a soft glow?

Overall, this is a great primer. It does what it claims i.e. smoothening out the skin surface and adding a soft glow and the effect lasts for almost the whole day on me. It is not magical fairy dust that will make all your pores and lines disappear but it will do a good job of minimizing them and giving you smoothness. And it does not feel heavy.
The only con is that it has lots of silicones, so women who are allergic will not be able to use it. And it is bit expensive, but the pot will last you really long.
