Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Colour - Reef Raf & Great White : Review

Written by: Smriti on:

Life has put me in a very paradoxical situation.

On one side my profession strictly demands clipped nails, and on the other side I love nail polish! It's a constant tug-o'-war between my desire to adhere to the rules, and break them by boldly sporting coloured nails. The only canvas I have left are my toes and I'm determined to make full use of them!

A lot of my Color Show nail polishes ran out (yes its possible to finish a bottle of nail polish) or turned goo-ey (like my beloved Green Grafitti which sadly just didn't work as a toe colour) and I had a major stash clearing phase. With ample space for new polishes, a Sally Hansen sale came right on time and I quickly grabbed two of the Triple Shine ones, and the Salon Manicure base coat too!

The Triple Shines come in tall glass bottles and double black plastic caps. The outer cap case comes off to reveal another cap that has the handle attached to the underside of it.

The mouth of the bottle is small for my liking, I always fear spilling the polish out when I'm drawing out the brush. The make of the brush is very nice, its soft and fans out beautifully over the nail.

Both the polishes are have a smooth formula and dry quickly to a glossy finish. I really like the quick drying time which ensures my toes do not end up looking like a smudgy / scratched mess.

Reef Raf is a medium pink with warm tones. It is quite bright, and in direct sunlight looks a little coral-pink. I truly like the colour for all-year-round wear. It perks up my mood whenever I glance at my toes!

Great White is a shade that I was really excited for, it was actually made as a unique white polish with shimmer, great if you don't want a stark white look. Unfortunately, Nykaa sent me a very very old stock (manufactured in 2015!) and the polish has changed its colour to a yellow white. I'm really disappointed, because (1) I did not expect this from Nykaa, it's a real let down, and (2) I really wanted a white polish in my stash!
Nevertheless, I make it work as a single sheer coat on my fingernails, and sometimes top it up with the Pearl Glaze topcoat by Revlon, just to cancel out the yellow and give it some more dimension.

Price: 430 INR

Overall, I'd say I'm not quite happy with my purchase. Reef Raf is not a unique colour on its own. I'm pretty sure you can find dupes of it among Lakme's Color Crush range, at half the price too! The one I was actually looking forward to, Nykaa ruined the experience by sending me a polish that has obviously gone bad. So much for all the quality checks hype -_-

I should probably do a mini review on the Salon Manicure base coat here too, as I'm loathe to dedicate a full post to it. It promises upto 90% smoother looking nails instantly, and it does that precisely, but again, I was sent a really  really old stock, and the base coat has turned dirty yellow. Any polish layered over that acquires that yellow tint if it has a sheer formula. Total waste of money...

Please do share if you've faced a similar situation with Nykaa. I'd like to know if it was just me, or the site is a repeated offender!
