Lakme Absolute Gloss Addict Lipstick Bare Beige : Review (I'm loving it!)

Written by: Smriti on:

Being a girl with full lips, wearing glosses isn't an easy task. Lately I've been shifting more and more towards lipsticks, especially matte ones. My absolute favorites are Lakme 9 to 5 lipsticks that come in uber-chic shades, appropriate for work environment. And then came the Gloss Addict range which I didn't expect to invest in but pounced on as soon as it entered my field of radar!

Now I know I'm uselessly late in reviewing it. I've finished almost half of the tube because I adore it so much, but sometimes it seems like there's a strange force at work which makes you forget to review the stuff you love the most.

But no more! I present to you Bare Beige, it's a beauty.

The Gloss Addict range is basically lipstick infused with the sheen of a gloss. For me, it didn't turn out as highly shiny as a liquid gloss, but it did a pretty job of giving a lustrous pout without looking tacky.

There were 4 shades I was torn over namely Desert Rose, Berry Rose, Very Berry, and Bare Beige. in the end I went with the last simply because that was the only shade I had swatched on myself, and swatches of the other 3 looked pretty much the same online, leaving me super confused. Moreover, I'm nothing if not a nude lip lover and Bare Beige fit the bill precisely.

Encased in a beautiful gunmetal case with a clear lid, the bullet is slim and flat topped, and the wind-up mechanism is smooth like a dream. The lipstick is scented with a sweet caramel-ly fragrance that's good unless you take a real strong whiff of it. The scent remains a while even on the lips, so sensitive noses beware.

The texture of these lipsticks is very balmy and the best way I can describe it is between a gel and creme finish. It glides easily on the lips leaving a very smooth and pigmented trail. Two swipes cover lip pigmentation to a good extent and give a gorgeous hydrated look to your pout. The formula keeps my dry lips very happy, but what sinks the boat is its staying power. Being transferable, and having this balm like texture, it survives 3 hours at the most. Snacking further reduces those 3 hours drastically.

Even so, this lippy has been my go-to nude if I can't think of anything else in the morning. Being a pretty beige pink, this shade works with anything and everything. Ethnic, western, day look, night look, glamorous smokey eyes, innocent girl-next-door freshness. You name it, Bare Beige can handle it all and pulls your look together like that! (Clicks fingers).

It's almost the fairy-godmother. Almost.

What impressed me the most is it's amazing texture. It's not like a liquid lipstick with the hazards of bleeding. Neither does it feather. It isn't a super duper glossy lipstick rivaling the shine of patent leather. No, it's just a balmy lipstick (there's that word again!) with a glossy sheen to make your lips look moisturized and healthy.

And out of all the lipsticks I own, this was the only one to get me the compliment of "kissable lips." Yep, those were the words ladies!

A big bummer is obviously the price. Shelling out that much will make you wonder, "Shouldn't I just buy MAC instead?" I did too. And then I saw it on sale online, and caved in to the greed. You should too ;)

If you're hunting for a rosier mauve nude with some serious glamorous shine, I suggest Mirrored Mauve by Maybelline, and if sultry matte nudes in earthier tones are your favorite check out Coffee Command by Lakme.

Don't worry if Bare Beige isn't the shade for you, because it is a shade that only fair to light wheatish skin tones can safely pull off, but don't hesitate to explore the other 14 shades available. And if you're reading this, and have bought one of those rose/berry shades I was after, please please pleeeaaase leave a good swatch of it online! I helped you with this amazing swatch na, now return the favour! :P
