Makeup Revolution London Strobe Highlighter, Moon Glow Lights : Review

Written by: Smriti on:

A lot of you kept requesting a detailed review of this one, instead of first impressions, so here it is! The new Strobe Highlighter is in the spotlight today, and it will steal your heart like a lovable rouge!

To address the standard things first, this highlighter comes packed in the regular MRL packaging. Black plastic pan with a clear domed lid. I would have preferred a flat lid which makes stacking easier. Although the hinge feels sturdier than those of my blushes and bronzer, I cannot guarantee that it will not crack. As of now with one journey, it hasn't, but this packaging has a tendency to crack at the hinges with regular use :'(

While already being a proud owner of Mary Loumanizer, I just could not resist this strobe highlighter, even though there aren't good swatches/reviews available on the internet till now. The only ones I found helpful were from Temptalia, and I trust her opinion blindly.

All this fuss because this highlighter diffuses the light, instead of just reflecting it. Worship-worthy, to say the least!

The dusty pink powder has a hint of warmth running through it. You can see that it is neither iridescent nor shimmery in the pan. To be honest, it looks quite blah except for the undulating design, but wait till you apply it! Moon Glow Lights turns into a beautiful highlight, perfect for a toned down naturally glamorous look. It'll leave people wondering, "Is it there...is it not there? Such a pretty glow she has, must be taking good care of her skin." I love this hide-n-seek highlighter!

To the touch, it feels silky soft (but the top most layer felt slightly dry, it wears off thereafter) and kicks up powder when I swirl my brush on the pan, so be careful with it to avoid wastage. On the skin it blends with minimal effort, so you can fulfill your strobing dreams to the fullest!

Pigmentation is sheer and buildable, and this powder can be used both dry as well as wet. I haven't tried it wet as I adore the way it looks on its own. Most days now, kajal, mascara, and this are the only products I use, along with a lip product. It wears for nearly 6 hours on me, so almost the entire day is done. In any case, beyond 6 hours of college/hospital duty, I look like a dead rat and no amount makeup can make me look human again. I've made my peace with that.

Swatched heavily

If you're in the market for a new highlighter, something you can pull off in a professional setting, then this is the one to go for. However, Moon Glow Lights isn't the shade I would recommend for every Indian skin tone, when built up the pink tones are discernible. Check out the other shades online and decide accordingly. I'd also recommend the strobe highlighter range for mature skin as it doesn't emphasize pores much, is easy to work with and also looks extremely natural. Being sheer, the chance that you might go overboard is negligible.
