My Current Haircare Routine

Written by: Swati on:

When it comes to hair, we all have different types and different issues, which is why I do not recommend many hair products often. What suits me, might not really work for you.
But since a lot of you have been requesting this one, here are the products I am currently using for my hair.

I do put in a new product every now and then to test/try out, but these are the ones that have been working really well for me and have become a permanent part of my stash.

1. Shampoo

Of course there has to be shampoo. This is perharps the one product that keeps changing often!
New ones come out and I always get tempted to try them.
But I always keep 2 kinds  - a hydrating one & a clarifying one.

I wash my hair twice a week. And I reach out for one of the shampoos as required. The hydrating one is good for my dry ends, and helps smoothen and soften my hair. A clarfiying shampoo helps get rid of product buildup, any itchiness and flaky scalp issues.

Currently I am using the Bblunt Perfect Balance Shampoo (hydrating , more here) and The Body Shop Ginger Anti Dandruff Shampoo (clarifying , reviewed here).

2. Conditioner

Now, I am not very strict with conditioner. Since I have limp-ish hair that falls flat very quickly, I usually skip conditioner.
Also, my hair is quite smooth naturally, so if I am using a hydrating shampoo I will not use a conditioner
However, I use a conditioner on the lenghts and ends of my hair if I am using a clarifying shampoo.

I love The Body Shop Banana Conditioner (more here) as it does not weigh my hair down. Also it smells yum!

3. Serum

I always use a hair serum, especially on the ends of my hair (mainly because I do use a conditioner after every wash). I prefer light serums (limp hair issues) and one of my all time affordable favourite is the L'Oreal Smooth Intense Smoothening Serum (reviewed here). I have also been liking Moroccon Oil Treatment Light, but it is on the expensive side. (more about it here).
I find that hair serum helps close the hair cuticles, and keeps my hair silky soft (especially since I blow dry my hair 90% of the times). It also helps prevent and loosen out any knots and tangles while combing the hair out.

4. Hair Oil

While growing up, the only hair oil I have used is the plain old Parachute Coconut Oil (high five if you are one of them too!)
Now, since I know better and also because of trying out newer ones, I have finally found one of the best hair oils - Kama Ayurveda Bringadi Intensive Hair Treatment (reviewed here). It is more than an oil, it is sort of a hair treatment (as the bottle says).
I like leaving my hair oil overnight though. This has made my hair softer, has reduced hairfall, also helps eliminate dandruff and itchiness. Bringadi also helps prevent premature greying.
I still like using Coconut Oil though, every once in a while, but make sure you use a good one, preferable to use a cold pressed one and not processed.

6. Dry Shampoo

I normally do not use products in my hair (expcet the very few times I am styling it). The only product I probably reach out for every now & then is Dry Shampoo, in case I do not have time to shampoo my hair.
I have used a few in the past - L'Oreal Fresh Dust (reviewed here) and the Bblunt Dry Shampoo. Both did a decent job. Currently I am using this one by Wella.
Smriti is a fan of Batiste Tinted Dry Shampoo (more here) which I will be trying next because the others do leave a white residue which takes a lot of rubbing in to remove.
But as I said earlier, I use it very sparingly.

7. Hair Rinses & Masks

I love using an Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse once every 2 weeks or so. It works wonders on my hair. Makes it smooth, voluminous and gets rid of all the gunk and product buildup!
Know more about how to make it yourself and how I use it here.

When I am not feeling too lazy I use a simple curd + lemon juice mask on my scalp and hair. This generally happens 2-3 times a year. (#hostellife...though I should do it more often,  since it helps a lot!

  • On the rare occasion that I do style my hair, I use a few products. I did a full post about that earlier, so you can check it out here
  • I also semi dry my hair using a blow dryer (my hair takes forever to dry otherwise). And if I am heading out, I will use a hair straightner on my ends to make them go in one direction :D
So that was my haircare routine. It is very simple and I do not do anything much. Hopefully I will start taking more care once I am done with studies :)
If you have any other simple tips and tricks, do let me know in the comments below :)

P.S.For reference : I have an oily-ish scalp prone to flakiness with drier hair ends. My hair is not chemically treated or colored.
