The Bombay Perfumery Trial Box, Women : First Impressions

Written by: Swati on:

A while back Bombay Perfumery had a pop up here in Bangalore, and it was a small sweet one. Many of you wanted a review of their fragrances and how dare I ignore your requests!

So, I had ordered their Women's trial box a couple of months back (which I had shared on Instagram) and I have been trying it out every now and then. Read on to know more and to know which one is my favourite!

The Mini Fragrance Kit comes for both men and women and has 5 fragrances (2ml each). 3 gender specific and 2 unisex ones.
You can buy the sample kit here

The fragrances in the Women's Kit are:
  • Seven Islands
  • Madurai Talkies
  • Moire
  • 1020
  • Chai Musk

Now, I am not that great at describing fragrances, but I will attempt a short explanation of each :)

SEVEN ISLANDS - "Pristine white sands glisten in the sun. A low tide teases the edge of the         beach and slowly slinks away to visit her other suitors, gathered around in wait."
Top: Grapefruit, Orange Blossom
Heart: Jasmine, Peach, Violent, Frankisens
Base: Tonka Bean, Oakmoss, Cedarwood, Vanilia, Musk
Olfactive family: Fruity, Marine
View - Sweet and fruity with some woody undertones. Quite suited for a girly outing, summers,        brunch...that sort of thing.

MADURAI TALKIES - Memories filtered through tones of sepia. A woman with flowers in her hair. A suitor dressed like the hero from the movie they've both come to watch. Or rather, live
Top: Bergamot, Mandarin, Neroli
Heart: Rose, Jasmine, Violet
Base: White Musk, Cedarwood
Olfactive family: Floral
View - A frutiy floral concoction.

MOIRE - On the edge of your vision lies a dream. You see it, but not quite clear. It entices you, pulls you forward but remains out of reach. Always behind a blurry veil, always irresistible.
Top: Cardamom, Cassis bud, Neroli
Heart: Tuberose, Jasmine Sambac, Apricot
Base: Sandalwood, Cashmeran, Leather
Olfactive family: Floral, Leather
View -  Woody fragrance with a hint of floral that can be apprciated after a bit.

1020 - "Streaks of red across a late afternoon sky. A breeze takes away with it, remnants of heat. A quiet sort of respite is breathed into the landscape. Momentary, but enough"
Top: Bergamot, Lemon, Ginger oil, Red Berry Pepper, Spearmint
Heart: Cyclamen, Jasmin, Palmarosa, Elemi
Base: Cedarwood, Patchouli, Vetiver, Ciste Labdanum, Myrrh, Musk
Olfactive family: Ginger, Woody
View - Unisex fragrance. Spicy and woody. It is a unisex fragrance. Quite like this one (I think due to the bergamot in it).

CHAI MUSK - "A busy terminal. Strands of life intersecting, weaving together in anticipation of a shared journey. Stories exchanged, stories forgotten. The only constant, myriad cups of tea."
Top: Lemongrass, Ginger root, Green tea
Heart: Osmanthus flower, Mate, Roasted nut accord
Base: Cade oil, Sandalwood, Hot milk accord
Olfactive family: Citrus, Musk
View - Unisex fragrance. Strong woody musky and a super tough one to describe. There is somthing very unique about this one and I haven't come across something similar yet. My favourite of the 5!

Other fragrances for men - Calicut, Sulawesi, Les Cayes
The full sized bottles are priced at around 4000 for 100ml, so I would suggest to try out the sample box first before investing. They have some very interesting blends and Chai Musk definitely stood out the most for me. I also got to sniff the men's fragrances at the pop up store and Les Cayes was just fabulous!
If you are a perfume lover and like to switch things around every now and then, give The Bombay Perfumery a go!

P.S. They also have fragrances for men which are also amazingly nice. I especialluy loved Les Cayes!
