Masaba by Nykaa Nail Enamel Review & Swatches
Written by: Swati on:
Hello everyone!
If you follow us on Instagram, then you would have known that we picked up 4 of the nail enamels from the new Masaba by Nykaa Collection last week.
We have already done 2 huge Swatch Fests of the Nykaa nail enamels before, so make sure you see those two. It is important. You will see why at the end of the post.

So without any delay, let's dive straight into the new collection!
The bottles are the regular Nykaa nail polish bottles with an ox print all over the black cap which looks cool, but it really does not make a big difference to me. I always like the sleek packaging of the Nykaa polishes though - easy to stack and store :)
The formula is good - as with most Nykaa polishes. Smooth texture, goes opaque and shows up true colour in a single coat. Dries down to a shiny finish. Staying power is average - about 4 days - with some fading/chipping on the tips. (Might differ on the amount of handwork you do).
The brush is good and a bit broader at the end -applies the polish well.
The collection has 12 shades - 4 in each family - reds, pinks and nudes. The shades cover a good variety of skin tones.
1) Rawr 275 ( available HERE )
2) Buzz Kill 277 ( available HERE )
Cool toned dusty pink (with a hint of mauve). Will suit light-medium skin tones.
3) Kale-ing Me Softly 280 ( available HERE )
4) Nimbu Pani 283 ( available HERE )
Price : 199 INR for 9ml
Now, let us get to the interesting part of this post! I found very very very similar shades in my own stash. The second I opened the package & took out the bottles I knew just the shades these would look like. Which made me super sad and a bit mad.
I understand Nykaa coming out with exciting collaborations and I love that the Indian beauty community has a wide variety of choices now - BUT, if some shades in a new collection look 98% similar to the already existing polishes from the brand, then what's the point? Why would I as a consumer, be interested?
This is not the first time this is happening. We already found similar shades from their original collection and floral carnival collection (READ SMRITI's POST FOR THIS).
But, luckily for you, I am swatching these shades below. You can see for yourself how similar they are.
** I am wearing 3 different shades below - can you that make out? Can you figure out which nails have different shades?
Index Nail - Dusky Azalea ; Middle Nail - Rustic Rose
Buzz Kill is just a tad bit lighter & ever so slightly cool toned than the other two.
If you have either Dusky Azalea or Rustic Rose in your collection - you need not pick up Buzz Kill.
** I am wearing 2 different shades below. Can you make that out?
These 2 are even more similar than the above. Rawr is just a tad bit lighter than Mink Muffin. If you have either one you need not pick the other. If I had to pick 1 - I like Rawr a bit more on my skin tone.
It makes sense to club certain shades together to fit a colour mood and launch a collection. I would not have minded it in the least if the shades included were the old ones. After all, I adore the original Nykaa polishes.
It however does not make sense to me that a brand would tweak existing shades by 2%, give it a new name, and then say oh hello, here's a pristinely new collection for you to spend your money on.
Well my money is hard-earned, and I could have spent it better!
Considering the price point, you're better off purchasing one of the original colours.
If you have a Nykaa store near you, definitely compare the new ones to the old ones before buying! I have a feeling that almost all colours will be similar to something else from the older collections.
If you don't have any of the mentioned polishes above and you do not mind spending a few extra bucks then definitely go ahead and get your hands on shades from the new collection.
xoxo,
Swati
