Dot & Key : Underarm Color Correction Mask & Serum

Written by: Swati on:

A few days back I had mentioned these 2 products on our Instagram stories and some of you messaged me asking for more details about them.

So, since I have been using the Dot & Key Underarm Color Correction Mask & Serum since over 5 months now, I thought why not cover the products on the blog and let you all know more.
Take a look (I have shared close up photos of my underarm before & after applying the mask and serum....just a heads up).

Let me begin by telling you this. I am guilty of using depilatory creams many times in my teens...Oh how I wish I had known better then! My underarms suffered a lot. They were dark, uneven & honestly made me sad everytime I looked at them.
I don't claim that they are in the best ever condition now, but I have been taking care of them much much more over the past few years & their condition has improved significantly. I will discuss more about underarm care in another post soon.

Last year I came across Dot & Key and I was quite surprised to see an underarm serum & mask in their product range. We do not have many such products in the Indian market. I had to try them out! So after 5 months of using both the products (on & off...I tend to get lazy & have not used them super continuously), here's what I have to share:

Packaging:
Plastic bottles. Easy to carry around. They look quite cute.
The pump of the serum could have been better. I feel it is a bit hard and not very smooth to use. The mask comes with an applicator (which I have lost). I would have preferred the mask in a squeezy tube too. But nothing major to complain about here.
The products are also free of parabens & sulphates

1) Underarm Detox & Color Correction Mask (available HERE)

"Caring for sensitive underarms is easy with this deodorizing mask, which minimizes pigmentation, body odour and roughness to reveal soft, light, even toned skin."

The mask claims to eliminate pigmentation, discolouration and roughness of dark underarm skin. It has activated charcoal, jojoba oil, tea tree oil - to detoxify. Calcium Vitamin complex - to even out skin tone. Peppermint oil - to deodorize and get rid of odour.

The mask looks like a creamy charcoal mask. It has a minty fragrance - a bit on the artificial side. Consistency is neither too thick nor runny. It is very convenient to apply & it doesn't create a mess. I find it super easy to carry on doing other work even with the mask on. The mask dries slowly. I leave it on for 15-20 mins (it doesn't dry up completely even then, which is fine because it is easy to remove). It does not cause any irritation on me

I think this has lightened the darkness to an extent & has made the skin tone a bit even with continous use? I think it has a made a small difference. 1 application will not show very drastic results. What I do love is that it makes the underarms feel really fresh ( keeps that fresh feeling for a while too) & odour free.

While one can whip up a mask at home too, and I do like doing that, I find this mask to be quite handy to keep in the bathroom. It is useful when I do not have the time to go for homemade DIY masks.

I will say this though, please keep expectations real while using this mask, I don't think it can change things drastically. If you have severe pigmentation & if it bothers you, then it will be better to visit a dermatologist for treatment. Also, I think it is important to know that we Indians naturally tend to have slightly darker knees, elbows, underarms...so try not to worry too much about slight darkness.

2) Underarm Color Correction Serum (available HERE)

This is designed to penetrate deep & eliminate pigmentation & roughness. It has bearberry leaf & peony root to correct uneven skin tone. It claims to deter the production of melanin without any toxicity or side-effects.

The serum has a liquid-gel sort of consistency. It spreads well, absorbs quicky & does not feel sticky or greasy. The fragrance is somewhat minty mixed with what I felt like an aftershave kind of fragrance - feels quite artificial. It doesn't smell bad, but I wish it was fragrance free

2 pumps is more than enough to cover your entire underarm area. I am trying to use it once everyday (after a bath). It feels a bit cooling when applied. I don't know if this serum has done anything for me... as I have not been using it super consistenly everyday.

Let's get up close and personal shall we?

Kindly do not judge me. It's just that...what's the point of simply writing about such products, without showing any photos? How is that beneficial to anyone?
So, after a lot of thinking & building some courage, I am sharing a before & after. This is taken immediately after 1 application of the mask and serum.
Like I said before, my underarms are no where close to ideal or perfect, and I am okay with that (so please do not be harsh or too judgmental).

Left - Before ; Right - After mask & serum

(Please note that you will not see a drastic difference in the before & after here, because it has been a while I have been using these products as well as doing other things to take care of the area. But the overall condition has improved a lot from a few years back).

Price : 695 INR for the mask ; 895 INR for the serum ( available here )

I wouldn't say that these 2 products are the only ones that have helped me. I have been doing a bunch of other things as well and collectively they all have been making things somewhat better over the yearsBut yes, the mask & the serum give a nudge to give some care of the area. They are very convenient to use (it's pre-made, so you just need to take it & apply). I may repurchase the underarm mask sometime, but I don't think I will repurchase the serum as I am really not fond of the strong perfume it has. For now I will make a mask myself and use that whenever I have the time.

The price is a bit on the higher side, yes. If you feel so then go ahead and DIY a mask. It will definitely help. You can apply any good non-irritating calming serum or moisturizer as well, it doesn't need to be a special product. The end point is just to take some care of the area & it will get better.

Swati
