StudioWest Pure Passion Cashmere Chubby Lipstick - Dreamy Chestnut : Review

Written by: Smriti on:

I absolutely love chubby lipsticks! They're fun to behold, easy to use, convenient to chuck into your handbag, and above all is their charm which tugs at the childish threads of my heart!

My very first chubby stick was Broken Hearted by MUA which Swati and I both got together ages ago (and only reviewed recently, sorry!), and then Sultry by Revlon gifted by Swati which I'm so hooked to, I cannot live without!

It was a while back when I realized my fair collection of lip products comprised only pinks and nudes in different tones, and I set out to remedy that with a nice brown shade for variety's sake, only to find a sudden dearth in good shades that would not make me look 10 years older! Kylie Jenner may have shot dark matte brown lips to fame, but in my very honest and humble opinion, that shade should only be reserved for editorial looks. Why would one want to sport lips that look as if they had all life sucked out of them!? It boggles my mind to no end.. -_-

So while sat and scoured the internet for a colour that suited my taste, I sent Swati on a swatch fest for different shades of brown too. One of the shades she recommended was Chestnut and having seeing how good Chestnut looked on my BFF, I decided to purchase it.

The lipstick bullet is encased in a matte black chubby stick, with a clear plastic cap (not very sturdy, mine has already cracked during travel) for easy identification of the shade inside. The name and the number are mentioned both on the cap and on the underside of the pencil which I appreciate a lot. This lipstick does not come with a separate box packaging, but is sealed with cellophane instead.

The twist up mechanism is smooth, and weirdly enough, the amount I twist isn't proportional to the amount of the bullet that moves up. Perhaps, this has been designed as a safety measure, in which case it is quite good!

As for the shade itself, it is beautiful. The warm medium brown shade is made youthful by the slightest hint of pinkish undertones. It looks absolutely gorgeous on my lips and I'm so glad I bought this!
Pigmentation is semi-opaque, and it allows some of my natural lip colour to peek through under a single coat. However, the coverage can be built up with a few more swipes, but I usually avoid having full-blown brown lips.
The texture of this chubby lipstick lives upto its name - Cashmere. It glides smoothly onto the lips without tugging, and a healthy glossy gel-creme finish, much like my beloved LipHugs! Naturally, the longevity is not stellar, 3 to 4 hours at max, and Chestnut fades evenly without leaving a tint behind. This isn't a problem for me as I usually carry it on the go, and because it leaves my lips moisturised too, reapplication is a dream!

I must mention that this lipstick does have a sweet, almost caramelly scent which I'm not too fond of, but it dissipates a few minutes post application so I just roll with it :)
