Herbal Essences Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner

When Herbal Essences relaunched in India a while back it was a hit of nostalgia for me. Who remembers that their shampoos & conditioners used to be available at those slightly fancy supermarkets many years back? I had a fun time trying out some of their older variants back in my undergrad days. Herbal Essence back then was a treat and I used to get it when I was feeling a bit indulgent and wanted to take a break from my usual Sunsilk :D
This was way before this blog was born, so unfortunately I do not have any old posts, but just google them and many of you 90 borns will take a trip down memory lane.
Anyway, in 2019 they made a comeback in the Indian market. Revamped packaging and hopefully better formulations...of course I had to give it a go! I wasted no time in picking up the Argan Oil Shampoo and let's just say that it has become a staple for me for the past 2 years. Multiple bottles down, it was about time I shared my thoughts on it on the blog. I have spoken about it & recommended it numerous times on our Instagram page & these even made it to me 2020 Haircare Favourites (pssst... follow us there if you don't already because a lot more beauty stuff makes it way there first).
Okay, let's jump into the review.
Good sturdy bottles, flip top cap. The fragrance is strong, pleasant and lingers ever so slightly on the hair for long post washing.

1) Herbal Essences Argan Oil Shampoo
Medium consistency, white liquid. It lathers well and cleanses the scalp & hair effectively. I have used it post a heavy oiling session many times and 2 rounds with the shampoo takes away all the oil. The shampoo does not make my hair dry and sometimes I even get away without using a conditioner. I did not experience any reactions or build up with it. The shampoo contains SLS & dimethicone.
I think that the shampoo should work fine for all skin types. Of course, dry or frizzy hair will need to follow it up with a good conditioner.

2) Herbal Essences Argan Oil Conditioner
Unlike the shampoo which I have been using for a very long time, I tried the conditioner only recently... I had a big stash to work my way through before. The conditioner has a medium cream consistency, it's not too rich or thick. Spreads well on the hair lengths and rinses easily. My hair feels smoother, more manageable, detangles easily and it does not weigh down my hair or make it limp. Many of the heavy duty richer conditioners tend to make my hair limp in a day. I find that this one is light enough for regular use, yet moisturizing. I like using a richer hair mask on some days, depending on how my hair is feeling. The conditioner contains dimethicone.
The conditioner should work well for oily to normal hair. It might not be enough for extremely dry, damaged or frizzy hair.

** For reference - my hair is fine, relatively straight & low frizz. The ends get a little dry sometimes. My scalp is slightly oily, tends to get itchy sometimes. I have never coloured or chemically treated my hair. I do use heat tools occasionally.
Overall both the shampoo & conditioner work extremely well for my hair. They do their job efficiently and haven't given me any issues so far. My hair feels clean, smoother & softer and has decent volume post-wash. I like that these can be used on coloured hair too and I love the price point - you can usually grab them at a discount online, for about 400ish INR - which is think is great for the quality & quantity you get. Highly recommend you to try this duo if you do not mind using SLS & silicones in your haircare.
Herbal Essences has brought out a newer range recently which is sulphate free & I have just got my hands on it. I am looking forward to trying it out and I will, as usual, let you know what I think soon - hopefully, an update on Instagram after the first few uses!
